Would I have a chance at Vandy?

Demographics:

White male, currently living in VA. I am homeschooled, so I don’t know if that will play favorably or not here.

I am thinking about possibly EDing to Vandy but idk if it would increase my chances by much.

Test scores/grades:

SAT: 1460 (690R/W, 770M) with a 16 on the essay
ACT: 30 composite (probably won’t submit since the SAT correlates to a high ACT score) with an 8 on the essay.
GPA: currently have a 3.97 unweighted GPA and a 4.23 weighted GPA (unfortunately haven’t been able to have lots of AP classes due to being homeschooled).

I also have a total of 14 college credits atm due to being dual enrolled and will have 21 by the end of this upcoming semester.

College classes taken: General Chem 1 w/ lab (A), World Civ 1 (A), General Psychology (A), and Precalc (A)

College classes taking this year: General College Physics 1, Applied Calc 1

ECs:

Varsity debate/speech (10,11,12) 8hr/week 40week/year

Church youth group (9,10,11,12) 2hr/week 52week/year

Tutor for math and chemistry. I tutored college, high school, middle school, and elementary kids (10,11,12) 3hr/week 36week/year

Geography camp helper (9,10,11,12) 30hr/week 1 week/yr

AWANA (basically just a church-related group that meets outside the church) (10,11,12) 2hr/week 30week/year

Library internship (10) Haven’t calculated the hours/weeks but basically I helped lead a book club for 3rd-5th grades during the summer

Youth medical mentorship: (9,10,11) (had to stop due to moving) 2hr/week 9week/year

General community service: probably around 200hrs or so.

Family responsibility: taking care of the family dog (thought I should add this since it is my responsibility and takes time) 52 week/yr and about 3 hours total a week

Honors:

8th place in the state of NC for team policy debate (11th-grade year; my family is military so I just moved the summer before senior year)

Qualifying mark for nationals for team policy debate (11th)

12th place in the state of NC for Cold Reading speech event (11th)

Best speaker in team policy debate (4x)

First place in science fair: based on my experiment investigating the effects silver nanoparticles have on E. coli (9th)

Recs:

Soooo I’m homeschooled so technically my “counselor” one is just coming from my mom which probably won’t be considered

Teacher recs: I know one teacher that I will be asking for a letter and she knows me super well and she loves me so it will be really good; haven’t decided on the second teacher

Optional rec: having the lady that hired me to tutor her kids for math write one for me. I helped raise her son’s D in geometry to an A by the end of the year.

Also, another optional rec will be coming from my debate coach who absolutely loved me and knew me very well.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

Your SAT/ACT scores are low for Vandy. No plans to re-take?

I think your SAT scores are actually pretty good 690/770. Vandy will super score your SAT if you choose to take it again. They won’t do the same for your ACT. They use highest composite ACT only. Submit your SAT scores and retake it if you think you have a chance to raise your reading score to 700 or more. Applying ED will help. The rest depends on whether Vandy’s offerings are a good fit for you (and if you can get the admissions committee to see that they are). Good luck!

Your scores are at the 25th percentile for Vanderbilt so it’s going to be a reach. Have match and safety schools on your list.
