Would it be inappropriate or just stupid to use a disney princess as an influence?

I feel like the best way to sum up someone, fictional or real, that has influenced me the most in life would be to use Mulan from the diseny movie.
Do you think that's a horrendous idea or could I maybe spin it and make it work?

Also, how much weight is actually put on the essays in college apps?

Written right, it could be an excellent essay. Go for it, at least try to write it and see how it goes.

Essays: in a competitive college you will be weighed at 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, or even higher. Your grades, sats, ec’s, can only paint so much a picture of you. Essays are what gives the application color, depth, dimension. So yes, they are important.

If done well , an essay comparing you and Mulan could be very creative !

I’d have to say that Mulan was a great role model.

At first I was thinking this was risky, but you might be able to make it work, especially if you’re a good writer. Definitely try it out, you’ll probably know right away if this is an essay you feel confident in sending or not. Then have an english teacher or guidance counselor look at it. You might realize, it just might work.

Okay, thank you everyone! I ended up using Mulan as my topic.

if you’re really concerned, you can do research back into the original chinese story.
