Would it look terrible to withdraw from Calc for Berkeley

Hey,
I am seriously considering withdrawing with a "w" from my Calc 1b class. After the first midterm, I am near failing. Got 30 out of 30 on the first quiz, and since then I have not gotten over 50% on either of our other quizzes or our 150 point midterm.

For the record I am not a bad student, this is just literally the hardest math teacher I have ever had. I have received A's in every math class I've ever taken, and currently have a 3.9 at De Anza.

I am a second year economics major enrolled in the winter quarter at my local community college. I have recently submitted my application for transfer to several schools including UCLA, Berkeley, and other UC's. On that application I claimed that I planned on completing Calc 1b this quarter, and 1c this spring quarter prior to transfer.

My question is: How bad will it look if I withdraw from this class on my application? This quarter and next quarter's grades are not included on my application from what I've heard, but would it look really bad if I didn't complete what i said I would on my application, and instead re-took 1b in spring and completed 1c over summer?

Please help, the last day to withdraw is coming up, and I'd really appreciate some feedback!

Its not a matter of “looking bad” its a matter of being rescinded.

The UCs tell you to notify them immediately if you change your schedule, or if you get a grade below a C in any class. If I’ve understood you correctly you are considering making the change and then sending them a note sometime this summer “My transcript doesn’t match what I said I was going to take. Turns out I’m going to take Calc 1C this summer”. That’s the way to get rescinded.

If you want to make this change, you need to inform all the UCs immediately. Whether that will change their admission decision, I don’t know. You ought to be talking with a xfer counselor at your CC. Or give a call to UC admissions.

edit: UCLA specifically says to complete a year of calculus by spring. https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/lsmajors/econ_pre.htm</a> What they do if you don’t – again, ask a xfer counselor or UC admissions

You need to change (a failing grade will get you rescinded) and switch into another class, then inform the UC immediately - less radical: can you switch into another section? Take the class at another CC?
