Would it really help me to take the ACT?

I have taken the SATs twice now, V540 M690 W540, V580 M690 W490. When I took them a second time I pretty much stayed the same. All my friends say they never went up a whole lot by taking it multiple times. It was recommended for me to try the ACT in October. Would this be helpful? I am only applying to east coast schools though.

It all depends what is tripping you up on the SAT - if you're overanalyzing the problems, the straight foward aspect of the ACT might help you out - however, it's not the math that is your problem. I dunno - you could try prepping more for the SAT or take a practice ACT out of a book and see how you do.

You might as well try. If you do badly on the ACT, colleges won't see the scores. If you do well, you can submit those instead.

i found the ACT ten times easier... i did lots of prep for the SAT and got a 1410/790w.. took the ACT and got a 34 which is like a 1520 with no prep. i would suggest taking a practice test and working on the timing-- that is the only thing that is harder- esp with science (that was my lowest section).

I"m not planning to take a SAT course so if I took them again would they really go up? I got an SAT book for the second time I took them and it really didn't help me. If I did well on the ACT would colleges on the East coast use that instead of my SAT score? or would most not care and only use my SAT score?

grr couldn't figure out how to edit my last post...

I've read about a few colleges on the East coast that would take ACT instead of SAT I/II....I wasn't planning on taking SAT II cause only my reach school requires it ...and I doubt I'm going to get in anyway there. But is this common for them to take ACT over SAT IIs??? and if I do take it should I take the writing section?

look at this way, taking the act couldn't hurt

yes, but is there truly little chance of me improving my SAT score if I took them again? unless I get a tutor or something...
