In addition to a good GPA and high SAT scores, if I were to join Varsity football, would it impress colleges? I was thinking it would help because

a) it's a varsity sport
b) i could write a phenomenal essay about how I challenged the societal gender norm and my experience with it and etc etc
c) nonconformity

@playpus well it would be fun also - the football players think it’s hilarious… so I guess both but the primary reason is that I want to get into college

@kittycatyeah Yeah, concussions are sooooo fun! I bet that adcoms will see straight through you. And you don’t mention another sport in your previous threads.

I play football at my school and I have to say that if you don’t enjoy it you will hate it sooooo much, also it interferes with the time you can spend doing college apps as well as keeping first semester grades up. I guess it depends on your school but for my school we get home at around 5:30 to 6:30 and school gets out at two so that’s a lot of time gone. also at my school we have had two girls try to play since I have been playing and both have quit with in two weeks, either bc it wasn’t what they expected or possibly bc some guys are just plain mean and harassed them. I think if you are going to do it great, but be prepared to actually be committed bc otherwise eventually you will get tired of people thinking its funny you are on the team and they will begin laughing at you not with you. Also just curious but what position do you want to play?

@loquatical well in my school the good players are the ones who actually play, and the bad ones are benched the whole time… so I’d probably be benched. &yeah, that’s because I haven’t joined it… I’m just thinking of joining it!

@playpus: I’ll manage it somehow, the guys on the team do it I probably can too! xD And yeah I’ve considered harassment but I’m friends with almost every guy on the team and if other players tried to harass me they would definitely intervene. And I’m not sure about which position I want to play, I’m going to ask the guys on the team which one I should try out for - I don’t want to take one of their spots!

Just saying, it really sucks that people consider a girl playing football “hilarious.” That said, don’t join the team unless you would be happy doing it otherwise.

@DiscipulusBonus lol no they aren’t being sexist or anything. It’s just that I’m a really small so they find it funny that I want to join football

if you are just joining bc you think it would be funny and for college don’t join bc you will probably quit, also have you done any conditioning or weight training or sports before?

@kittycatyeah: OK, then–that’s nice to hear. When you were talking about the “societal gender norm” and “nonconformity” in your original post, I started to get worried.

@loquatical: No, I didn’t say I was already done with my junior year? If you read my previous post, it started with IF, not “these are my stats.” I’ve taken the SAT and the extracurriculars are for certain in that post, so I’ve idealized my grades for this year and planned out my senior year to know my options in advance.

if you only play senior year then they will see right through it, if you started playing as a freshman and played all 4 years showing improvement then they might take you seriously

@playpus: I’m thinking of doing JV track this year and V football senior year… so I don’t think it’ll really be that obvious that I’m doing a sport just to get into colleges
