Would Pakistani people count as minority?

Would my ethnicity help me by any means with getting into a rigorous college? Because I am a Pakistani American girl and I heard if you are a minority and have excellent grades along with ECs and a good SAT score, it helps in the admissions process.

Nope, It just counts as being white.

I’m half Syrian, I know how you feel.

sorry but it probably won’t help you; race only helps your admissions chances if you’re an under-represented minority, which is if you’re black or hispanic, mainly. however different colleges could have different policies in this, so if you really want to know i’d suggest emailing colleges you’re interested in and asking them.

oh alright. But then, how are blacks and hispanics a minority and Pakistanis aren’t? I’m guessing they are considered Asians?

riad: some colleges desire under represeented minorities. African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans on the whole, have less presence in colleges than other minorities such as East or South Asians. Pakistanis and Indians are minorities in the USA, correct. But are not under represented in US colleges and therefore, aren’t sought after.

That doesn’t mean that you don’t add diversity to a college campus and Pakistanis (and Asians generally) are under-represented in the midwest, so you do get a boost there.
