at yale like stanford? what do you think?

to be quite honest, I don't want to think about it ><

....a lot more pressure to get in has just been put on me too as of a lot of CC-ers here. It'll be bad come Monday afternoon, but it wont be as horrible as Stanford's b/c we're more prepared for it, but you really never know.

why speculate? give it about a day and a half, and we'll know for sure..

actually, let's keep speculating >_<

Yeah, I don't think it'll be QUITE as bad, because at least we're braced for it.
Perhaps that's just wishful thinking, though.

^ yeah i think i'm more prepared for a rejection (or maybe deferral) from reading some of the slaughter threads.

It won't be the same. Yale defers a lot more people than they reject, whereas Stanford doesn't. So, here on CC, I doubt that more than a handful of us will rejected this round. The worse that most of us will get is a deferral.

And I agree, most of us are braced for the rejection/deferral.

The Stanford Slaughter was actually helpful in putting this whole thing in perspective.

I sincerely hope that Yale is a little nicer, but it's almost comforting just to have confirmation about the just how arbitrary the entire process is.

^ If you mean subjective and not random, then I agree.

It's not just qualifications and how well someone can do the coursework. It's how well that person translates onto paper and how well that translation fits into the school's student body.

God I hope not.
But I'm prepared if it does.

Yale has said that they intend to defer fewer applicants this year, which I think is ultimately a good thing.

Meh, whatever happens happens, I guess.

Percentage wise, it cant be worse than stanford, unless Yale, without warning, decides to really hack down on the percentage of the class they want to fill with early. But Yale SCEA is the second toughest EA program, because there isnt the boost from doing a binding thing. IDK, I'm guessing overall 13.5 % acceptance, about 36.5% deferral, 50% rejection overall, and around a 20% on this board, which is more optimistic than people are estimating.

^ That's a high rejection rate. I don't think it'll be that bad. Wasn't last year's deferral rate like a 70% or so?

I would say like 20% rejection tops and about 10 admittance? Am I really off?

What's the toughest EA then?

But they said they were hacking deferal rate and just rejecting people, and it was like 60% deferred, so I think -> 50 is reasonable. In past years, they have been around 15-18% acceptance, but a 5.7 % acceptance RD last year - which is the lowest, period - I think Yale will want to accept people EA such that RD is around 8%. And there is more EAers than ever - but I dont think it will be as bad as Stanford's 12%, so that is where I'm getting 13.5.

^ Oh, okay. So you're saying 35% rejection and 50% deferral?

well they said they wanted to reject more, defer less this year
