Would this be a benefit for me? **

I'm a junior in high school and I've never been very athletic -- I'm very music oriented and have a toonnn of EC's with music. However, I'm doing Track and Field this spring and tennis in the fall...would this benefit me in any way? Or would this show how I'm not consistent and serve as a disadvantage?

Honestly music, the best thing to do is the thing you love. And think that every second you spend on a sport is taking away from your time doing the things you are best at and want to do…as you say “for life.”

Not sure exactly what you are asking as far as being a benefit. If you are asking can you take up a sport junior year hs and possibly get some $… that would likely be a snowballs chance in hell, especially since you say you have never been very athletic.
If you want to do a sport to be more well rounded for fun and perhaps put more on your college apps as things you participate in then great. Good luck to you.

@momof2010: Yeah, I’m just asking whether it would look good on my app because I haven’t done sports throughout high school.

It won’t help much if any. Colleges like to see continuity in activities.

Really? But i mean, doesn’t it show at least something? I’m planning on doing tennis in the fall…and I have a lot of other ecs so I thought it would just show how im able to balance everything on top of the rigorous classes I take.

Cosmetically on an application it would most likely be of no help. But it may help YOU. Maybe it will be a stress reliever or perhaps you will become close friends with someone as a result. It could even indirectly help your app by serving as inspiration for an essay. Join the tennis team for you and not for how it looks.

if you are just doing something to waste a little time, you might as well do something that you are at least half way good at and you enjoy. Otherwise, admission sees right through the bs.

Music, clearly the vote is a no go on the sport. However, as imafan said, pursue the thing you love. And if you are looking for things to do to beef up your app, go crazy with the thing you love! The top schools really like passion in an area, and they particularly look at how you spent your summer. So maybe take music classes at a local college, or some other type of summer music activity, to further demonstrate your passion. Good luck!
