Would this be a good Extracurricular?

So, basically I've started to teach myself the vast world of programming, specifically for developing apps. Let's say this does work out, and I make some money to show for it, would this be a good extracurricular? Please tell me what you think, thank you.

I’d like to hear what others think – generally, I think of an extracurricular as being more structured – this sounds like more of an ‘interest’.

That being said – if you can demonstrate a proficiency in programming, can show some apps you developed, and/or can show that you’ve developed a business and are profitable, it should lok good.

I think your EC should involve other people . A team sport or volunteer work is better .

please,other people?

Why so inactive?

Do you enjoy this activity? If you do, then it is a good EC. ECs don’t have to involve multiple people, the person who said that is dead wrong…

OP, I think that is an EC but it’s more impressive with some real results to prove that you actually learning something.

Yes, if you show a passion for programming and are able to demonstrate impact by developing products that are actually used by people, then I would say it is a good EC.

Recently at an NYU information session, they said EC’s can be things you do on your own time such as hobbies or teaching yourself something new; so yes, that is definitely an EC, and a much better one than the average Red Cross or NHS you see on an application. Admissions counselors know kids join those clubs simply for their resume. I personally think teaching yourself something like that is unique and shows more passion for learning.
