Would this be a little...much?

So I’m applying to Brown, and I’m working on the question that says “What is something you’ve created that you’re proud of and why?”. I’m a creative writing kinda chick, and one of my (peculiar) talents is writing Shakespearean sonnets, plays, etc. I even wrote a creative essay for English in all Shakespearean once and got an A+. SO…I was wondering this: what if I wrote out this prompt in Shakespearean? Like, actually submitted a sonnet instead of general writing? Sure, it would grab their attention and showcase this bizarre talent of mine, but would it be a little… over the top?

I’m tempted to just do it anyway for fun.

Seeing as Brown has a kind of weird reputation anyway, I’d go for it. Provided you do it well.

I think it sounds great and could see it working for Brown.

I don’t know about Brown but EVERYTHING I’ve seen says DO NOT write a poem/sonnet. So I would advise against it.

I vote yes, for the same reasoning that Brown is a quirky place anyway

What I have learned from counselors and other sources, is that if you want to do something different, something like this, you have to do it well, make sure it is perfect. If you can pull it off and make sure that they find no mistake, then go for it, as I am sure they will love it.

If you have something to back up the talent, go for it, BUT show it to someone first. You are welcome to PM it to me, and I’ll look at it (Brown grad and AP Lit teacher).

Remember that sonnets have substance and not just form.

I also think it works best if you have significant CW ECs/awards that you want to highlight in your app, or if you are a math/science kid.
