would this help in admissions?

would it make a difference if say you have a friend or is slightly acquanted with an alumni or faculty at the college you want to go to? because I know if your own family went there (legacy), that might make a slight difference . but what about people that you know that are not family? would colleges actually contact that person?

None whatsoever other than whatever information you can glean from him/her on what the school is like and then develop a cogent ability to say how it fits you.

I'm an alum of one of the HYP: my friends only get my experiences -- that's it. Name dropping won't help them one iota.

dang!! Guess that's another disadvantage..

um, slightly off-topic, but what about if your brother graduated from the college? is that still legacy, or does it have to be a different generation?

Is that a blondie joke?

A brother doesn't make you a legacy, just parents and grandparents. At some schools it helps if you have a sib there at the same time.

no not really, it was a genuine question. but i guess i was being a bit blond.
