Both UCLA and Cal are incredible schools. I guess, a lot would depend on the area of history you are interested in studying. I’m a Cal because of the Center for British Studies and the Celtic Studies Department (British history major here). What area are you interested in?

haha you guys have gone too far…

think about it only after u r accepted to at least either UCLA or Cal.

aw, we can still talk about it can’t we?

Idee, I’m a history major too, and I went up to Berkeley to visit the campus a couple of summers ago. Absolutely beautiful (campus, that is. people… not so much). They have a wonderful program too. It does have a particular type of energy there, I can’t explain it, but I personally did not vibe with it. But a LOT of people love it. So, if you haven’t gone, GO and see if you like it!

Also, I know this may sound silly to some, but if you’ve been in LA your whole life, consider the weather in Berkeley and if you will be okay with it. I know some people who grew up here and have a tough time in cloudier places.

And, of course, consider: LA=HORRENDOUS TRAFFIC

There’s no harm in talking about it. It’s not like anyone here is already apartment shopping, we just know which school we would most like to attend. Nothing wrong with knowing what schools you want to attend the most. In fact, it’s pretty sensible to already be thinking about where you will go if you get into all of them, and I’d bet people even have their second and third choices in mind. I’m sure some people already have graduate schools that they would most like to attend, and jobs they want.

planning ahead is of value! gosh, i’d probably choose berkeley. over 10 members of my family are berkeley alum, and i am a HUGE BEAR FAN, so it would be hard to resist following the legacy and getting into the student section at cal games. and i live in albany, so i wouldn’t have to move.

but, it’s SOOOOO liberal. ug. i’m a libertarian and not sure how i’ll do with liberal professors (if they are so). i’m an anthropology major; ucla has a program i’d be interested in, but i just can’t stand L.A.

haha ilivefree, I’m a liberal and some of the people I talked to in Berkley were too liberal for ME. hahahahaha.

@ Edward04 freaking hilarious. HAHAHA. I’m sure that’s all the guys are thinking about. I’m kidding…

This liberal talk is kinda wow…LOL. Now I’m afraid of what I’ll see up there if I get accepted, xD.

It’s two weeks away…come on, we have a right. LOL. [:

i’m interested in american history…and yeah, LA traffic sucks a lot.
i don’t think i would commute because i would just never want to go to class because of it.

Here are the History Department faculty pages for UCLA and Cal (by fields of concentration):

UCLA: [Faculty By Field — History](http://www.history.ucla.edu/people/faculty-by-field)
Cal: [Department of History, University of California Berkeley | Faculty](http://history.berkeley.edu/faculty/fields/)

UCLA has many more professors in US History than Cal. You should check each faculty member’s page (at both institutions) and see if their research interests are interesting to you.

When you guys who seem to not like the “liberal” aspect of Berkeley students, etc, define “liberal” because liberal for someone can be conservative for another.

liberal as in pro same sex marriage, higher taxes for the rich, and more government, etc. Not as far left as the Green party though.

politics is dull now

like harry potter

:) (sad happy)

My first choice is Santa Cruz, my second choice is Berkeley. I’m from Southern California and I want to go somewhere cool in Northern California.

sorry but i’m pretty sure most uc campuses(with maybe the exception of irvine) are pro same sex marriage.

I would love it if you anti-same sex marriage could have that tatooed to your forehead, so that 20+years from now, you’ll be the ones getting discriminated against(and rightfully so because of such a limited mentality).

“If you’re young and conservative you have no heart, if you’re old and liberal you have no brain.”

Oh, that Winston… lol

liek, iaskquestions never said he was against same sex marriage.

and that’s irrelevant anyways; if we wanted to debate this it would be politicsconfidential.com

Bezerkley!!!

I’m an engineering major and Cal has the one of the best engineering programs ever, ranking only below MIT and Cal Tech (tied with Stanford).

PLUS I’m a hardcore left-winger.

The only drawback? NorCal weather–YUCK!

I’m going to miss my SoCal sun…sniff

But other than that: Berkeley is the place for me!

As a History Major myself, Berkeley because it’s ranked number 2 in History, although I would never shoot down UCLA (My childhood dream school). I’ll go where ever I get in, and if the big Tranny in sky gets me into both, I’ll the luckiest ■■■■■■■.
But just on the Basis of my major, Cal.
Go Bears!!
Go Bruins!!
Some one take me!
