harry potter will never be dull!!!

UCLA for sure! It blows Cal outta the water.

Berkeley all the way!!

Rhetoric aside, you should look at the program and professors. Forget about brand loyalty, it’s all mostly hype. Both schools are excellent choices.

^ having done that, my opinion stands.
B-Town, cuuuuz.

1) no one calls Berkeley - “b-town”
2) no one in norcal says “cuuuz” because that’s socal slang

good try though…

^ you’re really going to try THAT hard to clown me?

relax, man.

^ …just as hard as you try to point out the difference of “alot” and “a lot” to people.

it’s cool, man.

what i do, chibi, is provide a service to today’s cyber youth. i provide them with a 2 second lesson that’s failed to reach them after 13+ years of education… i’m hopefully saving them from future embarrassment by making a totally IMPARTIAL statement, bringing to light a common mistake that can easily prevent an individual from being taken seriously in a formal setting. same goes with ‘their’, ‘there’, and ‘they’re’… or ‘then’ and ‘than’…
granted, i’m a little neurotic, and might be a little more bothered by these mistakes than the average Joe… still…

what you do: constantly make yourself out to be a whiny, immature, arrogant, combative, proud and just plain foolish little child <– be that mentally or temporally.

why do you do it? - because when no one else will, i’m the one who calls you out when you say foolish things.
see, when i say foolish things, they’re intended to be foolish in hopes of inciting a laugh.
when you say foolish things… well… that’s just you.

to the rest of you: sorry, but i’m weak, and sometimes can’t help myself.

dudah take a xanax it’s just the internet…

I’m surprised this question gets debated, since in my mind Berkeley has always outranked LA. I mean, you can’t get any higher than the number ONE public school in the nation. I also know that in high school only the very top, cream of the crop in my graduating class got into Berkeley, while many ho-hum students were accepted into UCLA. I also have friends that attend both schools, and from their stories I can definitely say that Berkeley’s environment sounds far more appealing to me. Maybe the people I’m asking aren’t a great representation of the entire student body, but ALL my friends who attend UCLA continually talk about sports and games and whatnot, and I DO NOT care one bit about sports. Friends that go to Berkeley, on the other hand, might talk a little about games, but then they also talk about clubs, classes, parties, professors, everything.

whoa, pinker, nice comeback. made me tear up a bit. a random immature guy from internet who thinks im immature, whiny, etc etc. awesome.

it’s all fun and games here, right? so why be so emotional about it?

and besides, if you want to put it in your way, if anything - “i’m just trying to provide a service to today’s cyber youth. i provide them with a 2 second lesson that’s failed to reach them after 13+ years of education… i’m hopefully saving them from future embarrassment by making a totally IMPARTIAL statement, bringing to light a common mistake that can easily prevent an individual from being taken seriously in a formal setting” … in that you don’t say “cuuzzz” and “b-town” here in the bay. it’s silly and you’ll get looked down upon; just like saying “hella” in socal.

but it’s cool, don’t want it to get too personal.

but back onto subject,

You make a few good points. But you do realize that UCLA isn’t so far behind in public school rankings. And besides, both schools specialize in their own respective fields. And boy, you haven’t seen enough of Berkeley yet, lol. Everyone there is crazy about their football team. It’s pretty awesome. lol

yer hella oblivious, cuzzzzzz.

“like omg, it’s you’re, not yer” ;)

Yes, but #1 has a certain ring to it, as opposed to #4.

As for sports, I’m aware that both schools unfortunately are really excited about their teams, but . . . I’ve been ignoring sports for the last 19 years of my life. I think I can do it for 2 more.

Berkeley weather is also way better than SoCal. Scarves, jackets, gloves? Am I the only one excited about this??

My opinion is completely skewed, but for me, Berkeley screams Culture! and Los Angeles screams Ostentation! but now I’m basing it on the schools’ respective cities, rather than the universities themselves.

I’m heavily biased towards Berkeley because I love the Bay Area and I love the school, not to mention it’s got an awesome English program, but I’d feel guilty for not even giving LA a chance without having visited the campus first. Both schools have something great to offer. LA would be quite a change of pace, which would be exciting, but I just feel so at home at Berkeley.

We’ll see!

UCLA. More applicants = a much stronger want for students to go. As for “ho-hum” students, a lot of “ho-hum” kids I knew got into Berkeley. Berkeley’s admit rate for Fall 2010? 21%. UCLA? 8.3%. So watch what you say about those so-called “ho-hum” kids. UCLA is much more selective. Cal’s only real strong point is its great engineering school. That’s a great plus factor, but… that’s the only plus, especially over UCLA. The Bay Area? Boring. Insipid. Cal kids I know hate Cal’s environment - hobos, bums and drug dealers overrun the area. Another USC. UCLA, on the other hand, is surrounded by Brentwood, Bel-Air, and Beverly Hills, three of the most prestigious and respectable areas in the nation. Who wouldn’t want to go L.A.?

LMAO I can’t believe this was bumped. Wow, how random. It’s unfortunate that this should come back so long before UCLA and UCB decisions are released.

Anyway, starlight, I know you’re new, but you just refuted a point made over a year ago…just thought I’d let ya know.

Also, where did you get this figure?

“Berkeley’s admit rate for Fall 2010? 21%. UCLA? 8.3%.”

This is ridiculously inaccurate ^^.

haha but since this thread DID get bumped, I’ll say that I would prefer Berkeley. Berkeley has an unparalleled vitality. As a previous poster mentioned, the “energy” at Berkeley is remarkable. Also, Psych at Berkeley is between top 3 and top 10 in the nation (depending on where you look), so I would prefer their Psych Department. UCB also has a Child Development lab that I’m definitely drawn to.

Additionally, UCB has an excellent football team, have won the Big Game the last 5 years, apparently has a strong NCAAM team, Telegraph is amazing, the Campanile is incredible, I agree more or less with the political vibe, and it is very near to many of my friends here in the bay.

This starlight kid has been raising a bunch of threads from the dead.
