Should people let their feelings guide them when they make important decisions?

*When making an important decision don't let your feelings lead you to your answer. A supportive example of this is how Pip, in the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, is obsessively in love with Estella. Another is, in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, when people automatically believe the young lady when she accuses Tom of raping her; just because he's African American and they let their feelings of racism influence them. My final example is in A Separate Peace when Gene becomes upset and jealous of Finny always succeeding, and goes to extreme measures to beat him at schooling or sports.
*Pip, the main character, who is categorized as a poor, hardworking boy, lets his feelings guide him into becoming a gentlemen for Estella. Pip goes to England in hopes of becoming a respectable young man so that Estella, whom he is obsessively in love with, will see him as someone worth loving. Pip becomes this fine gentleman, only to discover Estella cannot love him back, and is engaged to another.
*In To Kill a Mockingbird Tom a local African American is accused and tried in court for the suggested raping of a young white woman. Many of the people didn't see any point in getting the facts or seeing if this had any truth. The people just let their racist knowledge of Blacks influence their opinion, and took her word for truth. If not for Atticus, Tom would've been sentenced to a crime he didn't commit.
* My last example is how Gene, the main character in A Separate Peace, became unrightly jealous of his friend Finny, because Finny was better at academics and sports. So, in his moment of purest feeling of jealously and want he caused Finny to fall out of the tree and injure his leg.
* Now you see how letting your feelings rule your decision making is harmful to your life. If you wish to make a good and logical job at making important decisions in your life, then do not let your unruly and sometimes savage feelings get the best of you.
