When I mean higher tier UC, I really just mean UCLA and UC Berkeley. Mid Tier, I mean pretty much all of them except UC Riverside, Merced, and Santa Cruz. What would you rather have?

i.e. 3.66 at UC San Diego or UC Irvine, etc.

3.13 at UC Berkeley/UCLA

You don’t consider UCSD to be “higher-tier”? Cries Anyway, I would much rather have a 3.6 at a “mid-tier” than a 3.13 at LA or Berk. I would also rather have a 3.9ish GPA at a “low-tier”. It depends on your major and what you want to do after though.

for what?

A higher gpa easily wins for grad/professional school.

I’m going the high GPA/low rank route. I’m at Riverside and I’m attempting at least a 3.9 if not 4.0 through a double major (Physics & Math), in addition to large amounts of research and LOR’s from both faculty here and faculty at other, more reputable institutions through summer work-- hopefully Stanford, because that tops my list of grad schools – in order to bolster my candidacy for PhD programs.

I would say a high GPA, but my dad always say you cannot buy Prestige :)

I would say having a higher gpa is more desirable

A 4.0 at a higher tier UC.
