Would you tell your friends and teachers If you got into a top school? Honestly, I might as well keep it a secret. Last year, there was this guy that got into UC Berkeley and also got a full ride and everyone at my school was so mad. What would you do If you got into a really good school?? Would you tell everyone so you can be praised for being smart or would you keep it a secret?

I would only tell my close friends and that’s it.

I wouldn’t tell them so that I “can be praised for being smart” but because they’re my friends.

But naturally, like everything else in high school, it would end up spreading throughout the school.

It’s really not a big deal though. As long as you’re not bragging you shouldn’t feel weird or bad telling people.

I wouldn’t tell my teachers unless they wrote me a letter of recommendation or I was really close with them or something.

I’m not going to tell anyone where I’m applying.
If someone asked a related question I’d tell them where I got in, but I probably wouldn’t just randomly share it.
I’m not smart, but if I were I’d like it if people praised me for it once in awhile.

I would only say anything about colleges if they bring it up.

I’m only telling my close group of friends where I’m applying/accepted/rejected. And also the teachers that wrote my LORs. I’ll only tell other people if they ask.

I’ll tell friends and teachers who wrote recs. But I will tell people once I know where I’m going. It’s so annoying on fb when people post “just got accepted/rejected to insert college here”

I only told my closest friends where I was applying. When I got accepted, I posted it on Facebook because that’s what everyone at my school does. Trying to hide where I got in would’ve made me seem snobby, I think.

once I figure out where i’m going, I’ld tell everyone. no point in hiding that. I wouldn’t tell if I just got accepted though

@RPreZZ, why was everyone “so mad” that your classmate got a full ride to Berkeley? Was he overly braggy about it?

I’d say it’d be facebook worthy IMO.

All the seniors always post acceptances on Facebook. Just because you happened to get into a good school doesn’t change the circumstances, be proud.

^ He did not brag about it. However, those who applied to UCB had higher stats than him and all of them got rejected so they were jealous.

I see. That’s unfortunate. At my school, I think my classmates would be genuinely happy for the person.

no, just tell everyone you got accepted there. thats it. however if its your close friends, then you can tell them you got a full ride

I told my teachers that wrote my recommendations I think that’s customary since they help you get in.

As far as friends, yeah, I’d tell my close friends mostly because they’d be likely to ask me anyway. When I got into UChicago though, I posted a Facebook status, mostly because that’s what almost EVERYONE at my school does when they get accepted to a school and since everyone had started getting their acceptances to state schools already, I felt kind of left out having no acceptances until that one came in December, haha. I got into another top school in January though, and I’ve kept it on the DL. I expect to do that in April if I’m lucky enough when the other acceptances come out too.

I see nothing wrong with telling people, though; you just have to do it in the right way. And besides my Facebook status (lol), I never tell people unless they ask me flat out.
