In eighth grade I had a teacher who, on the first day of his class, took individual pictures of all the students so that he could "memorize" us, or something like that. We were warned beforehand he would do it, but he didn't tell us we could opt-out from it. It's not an issue now, but looking back on it, it made me wonder.

There were a number of weird incidences with him in class, but would you consider that alone questionable, even illegal, itself?

I am a teacher , and many teachers do this the first day to get to know students . They usually use the photos in some sort of display , " Meet Our Class " . No , this is not creepy .

For my school, teachers can electronically create a seating chart using our school pictures so they could help memorize and associate our names and faces. I don’t think it’s weird.

We had a science teacher at my high school (I only mention this because science teachers are notoriously bizarre) who takes individual pictures of everybody in his freshmen classes, and then four years later when they’re seniors, he hangs them publicly in the hallway around graduation time so everyone can laugh at how tiny and silly they looked back then.

I think you’re looking to far into it. he was obviously trying to memorize your names. At least appreciate that he gives a crap, and isn’t one of those teachers who calls you the wrong name for the first month, no matter how many times they are corrected.

I had a bio teacher that took pictures of us sleeping in class and emailed it to our parents. I never sleep in class but one day I was up all night for a project and I crashed in his 1st period. He actually found a worksheet, put a big red “F” on it and placed it next to my desk while so my parents would see it in the picture.

I’ve heard stories like this before where the teacher ends up being a pedophile I guess it would be fishy if he mainly cared for the girls’ pictures. What other weird things did he do in class?

He discussed functions of different torture devices in-depth at the beginning of the year–it was a technology class and definitely not part of the curriculum.

There were a number of instances where he said lewd things to girls, but I’m not sure how true or “creepy” they really were.

A lot of people got a really bad vibe from him–of course that evidence alone isn’t sufficient, but I think our gut feelings were on the right track in some sense.
