<p>Omg. That's sad with all the divorces, but that'd be so cool.</p>
<p>One of my roommates’ family went to HYP dating back to the early 1700’s. Unbroken line. He was a waste of space and would have flunked out if not for the caring, personal intervention of our college’s dean. He would have been better off not going to college at all. </p>
<p>The persistent appeal of “old” money and “old” connections fascinates me. Many people want to value - and be valued - based on something over which they have no control, as though having a Dupont ancestor makes you intrinsically better. The key word is “intrinsically” because the urge seems to be that this kind of value blesses you at a deeper level than your own accomplishments, as though this means “better” is built into your DNA. Which is total tripe belief.</p>
