Wow, this is pretty crazy

So this morning I decided that it would be a good time to go ahead and fill out my prospective athlete form at some NESCAC schools’ websites. Obviously Bowdoin was on my list. I wasn’t expecting any replies since it is a saturday…

But I did get a reply from Bowdoin’s men’s Lacrosse coach. He seemed pretty interested, and as random chance would have it… they are about 10 minutes away from my house (in florida) practicing this week. He invited me to come see them practice and to talk to him. I’m pretty excited about it. How often would a Florida kid like myself get to see the coach and team of a school that’s located in Maine?

Just one quick question…

How do you pronounce Bowdoin?

haha… I don’t want to make a fool of myself.

bow like as in a bow on a present and din as in like "DIN"ner BowDin=bowdoin

that is pretty crazy and exciting. i stayed overnight with the tennis team and they were reallly nice and the coach was too :)

Thanks so much. I was definitely saying it wrong... I was saying

Bow, like bow before me peons!
do, a dear a female dear...
In.. not out, but in.

Thanks for saving me from looking like a complete idiot.

Yeah, It's just so random and so crazy... I'm really looking foward to it.

That's not really suprising. Bowdoin's lax team is pretty terrible this year. They're in 18th place out of 20 in Division III. So, I'm assuming their team is in desperate need of talent.

Good luck.

This is a strange place to be posting very tall tales about Bowdoin's men's lax team. Just to set the record straight, Bowdoin is ranked 13th out of 132 D3 teams in the lastest D3 lax poll.

Yeah, DIII is very big. I like the competition more. It's more average kids playing for school pride than all the best kids to ever play playing to keep their scholarships.

It went pretty well. I caught the last 20 minutes of practice, and he walked up to me after the practice, and knew who I was (because I was the only non-team member there...) and he said my academics were looking great, asked me what department I was interested in (english) told me how great their english department is. Also hinted that he couldn't really talk to me about lacrosse until after my junior year is complete... so hopefully I'll be able to contact him again once this year is over.

Haha, I made it through without having to say Bowdoin though... that was impressive.

The correct pronounciation from the school's website:

http://www.bowdoin.edu/about/history/name.shtml

Maybe the college should have the pronounciation with the information materials, because I definitely said it Bao-doine until I visited. Or would that make Bowdoin seem less well-known...?
