I am a senior in high school, class of 2021. I am very interested in ASU. I have a 4.00 weighted, 3.7 unweighted GPA. Including my senior year I have enrolled in 3 AP classes, 13 honors classes and my SAT is 1200.
I have played baseball throughout all my years in high school and have been involved with student leadership and Future business leaders of america (FBLA). That being said, I want to major in marketing and was thinking about potentially apply Directly into the business school.
Should I directly apply to the business school?
If NOT, I know ASU is test optional, should I send in my test scores in or not?
Son is a high school senior. 4.0 unweighted GPA, no test scores. Applied and got direct admit into WP Carey/Finance. Found out in a couple of days. Waiting for Honors college. Go for it, no scores needed.
My daughter’s acceptance letter states that she was accepted into her second choice major, which is “Business in the W.P. Carey School of Business.” Does anyone have any experience in that program? If so, I would appreciate your insight.
@anxiousdad2020 - what was her first choice? In my experience of two kids going through ASU, there is always an option. Some of the majors may be impacted, but I am not aware of any. Best of luck to her. Let me know if you have any questions.
My daughter was accepted to the BA Business program for fall 2021 (got her second-choice major - first choice was BS Marketing), however her stats are closer to the “average” level, so are super excited that she’s been accepted directly into the business school. From what I understand, she’ll have opportunity to perform well and to apply to transfer into the BS program. That’ll work for us! To OP, sounds like your stats are great! My daughter applied via ASU’s application (not Common App) and they did not ask anything about extracurriculars, so we assume decision is made solely on GPA, test score (which we did NOT submit), and self-reported transcript. Good luck!
My daughter was accepted to the Business Exploratory program at W.P.Carey for fall 2021 which was her first choice as she didn’t actually know which area she wanted to specialize in yet.
@usma87 I appreciate the reply. Her first choice was BS Marketing. She had a non-business major as her second choice. Letter does not say that she was accepted to “BA Business”, just “Business.” We will call the university and sort it out. Regardless, she is excited about the opportunity.
My kid got accepted into WP-Carey - in the BA program for Financial Planning - Fall 2021. However, we asked to switch over to the BS Program in Finance, and that request was not approved.
I read that a large number of classes are common between the BA and the BS program - but, we still are interested in switching to Finance.
We only supplied the GPA, not the ACT (scheduled in 2 weeks). Hoping it’ll be a decent score.
My questions are:
How easy or difficult is it to try to change degrees (BA to BS) later - and consequently majors? at the end of Freshman year, etc.
Should we retry the change of majors, if the ACT score comes out good?
@ygayga - My DS made several major changes while at ASU Barrett. They were all on the BS side, but he changed “schools” three times. So, my opinion is it is very easy. I would look at the ‘major map’ for BS in Finance and sign up for as many of those classes as possible. There are very few differences in the first year. If you go to the degree programs page in the WP Carey school, you can get to the major maps to compare.
My son is finishing up his first semester at WP Carey school majoring in Business Analytics and Marketing. Most of the first 2 years are core business classes that regardless of major all business students take. Take a look at the different major maps on the ASU WP Carey website. From what I understand, it’s pretty easy to change majors especially if you maintain a high GPA. Your advisor should be able to help you with that once you’re enrolled. Hope that helps.
My son was accepted into WP Carey about 10 days ago (according to the portal), but we still haven’t received any package in the mail - can anyone share their experience with the timing for physical mail acceptance letter?
I got in on November 7, but didn’t receive the actual admissions package until November 23 or 24, so there is definetly some decent delay between online notification and mail. I also live very far away so this may have been part of the reason why, but who knows?
