Momoftwins, Aspen,
Your insight is so helpful to those of us who have students still navigating the admissions process - Thanks for sharing.
Ann

Yes, it was a glorious weekend.

Army Beats Navy in Cross Country (sweep by both men and women's teams)

USC shows why it is the #1 college football team in the nation

My green leisure suit stood up just fine in the rain at West Point PPW!

I got to meet Momoftwins!

However, I seem to be being shadowed by the mysterious Aspen, who turns up in the most unexpected places!

A great weekend for parents and plebes at West Point!!

Shogun - Sticks & Stones Pal! USMMA beat Army in crew. (I'm cryin' & whinnin' about having nothing to boast about these days) Er, I meant, glad you're back all dry and safe. Hey! Now you can moth ball the green thing till next year! Bet you're still resting up from the week-end. It had to have been one of the most memorable experiences to date. Did they indeed let you keep the toasting classes as in previous years? I just thought that was the neatest of traditions. I did try to take a rifle from one of the Plebes for my keepsake. Boy those kids are strong. I only got a Proud Plebe Parent button that I haven't taken off yet. Hurts me when I sleep. Congrats to all of you for having truly amazing kids! I'm gonna sleep well tonight knowing that they are all out there, taking care of us. And good luck to Ann & her family! You've got an amazing kid too for wanting to follow in their footsteps!

Thanks Jamzmom - I always enjoy your posts - so much positive energy!

Oh thats too funny Ann. Positive energy. I will remember that. Everytime someone says (and they say it alot), "Geez your spastic! Settle down!" I can tell them, "Nope! Its positive energy!" Thanks! Could be all the chocolate though.... Keep in touch on how the application process is going. Its such an amazing thing to share as everyone here can relate to it. I love this place because of that. Co-workers, neighbors, & even sometimes family don't quite understand the full realm of it and its great to have such good folks here who keep you in the know in "academy world". Its also truly amazing to see the difference in academies. I've learned so much!

Was wondering if Momoftwins had quality "spa" time with her daughter over the week-end. I know that the girls at USMMA on parent's week-end begged to go get decent hair cuts. Those barbers with their clippers had done a wicked job of it. A few layers would have been nice. They have so little time for a little self maintenance. Even the boys shave without the benefit of shaving cream. Said it wasted time. Yikes.

Jamzmom - you are too funny - and so right about others not understanding the rollercoaster ride that results from a decision to pursue an academy. Son is in the "patiently" waiting phase. He has a LOA and has successfuly navigated the DoDMERB remedial process. He has completed the nomination paperwork - nothing to do at this stage but wait, and try and get some enthusiasm mustered for back up plans....

No spa time this trip. There was just too much to do at WP on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, she just wanted to watch tv in the hotel. I initially thought it would be boring, but we really wanted to follow her lead and we had a blast watching baseball and seeing a couple movies while we ate way too much.

I got all 5 wine glasses home without breaking even one of them. Can't wait to use them.

One of the best parts of the trip was meeting her sponsor. He invited us to his house on Friday night. It turned out to be a major highlight. Then again the whole weekend was a major (no pun intended) highlight.

The hop was great. I thought all the cadets looked outstanding in their formal uniforms. A lot of the girls were saying they thought they looked like waiters - especially when all the cadet girlfriends were in prom dresses.

With all of the upperclassmen gone, I hear there was a slip 'n slide in the hallways of one of the barracks. Plebes were allowed to talk and look around. Life was filled with small pleasures like this. I also heard that Monday night was very depressing. Fun had died and they were back to living by plebe rules. Sounds like time for boodle. :)

Go White Sox!

As good as the weekend was, I didn't get to meet aspen. Maybe I wasn't in enough mysterious places like shogun.

Momoftwins:

Next time check out the WP Military Police Headquarters, I usually get to spend some time there. Sorry I missed you.

I met Shogun while busing tables in the Comfort Inn breakfast room. I knew it was Shogun when I saw a guy in a green leisure suit asking everyone on Sunday if they knew who had won the USC/Notre Dame game. By the way, Shogun is a big tipper - not!

The commemorative wine glasses were a big hit. Not a single one of the 4000+ glasses was left behind. Could have sold mine for a pretty penny but my wife nixed the deal.

Glad you had a great weekend with your daughter. Won't be long before Thanksgiving leave.

Sounds like everyone had a good time at PPW. Glad the rain let up for some of the activities. We were at West Point the weekend before to go to our first Army football game. We were excited because it was Homecoming and the entire Corps would participate in the Review on Saturday. Luckily we saw the practice on Friday with most of them in BDUs. The Review was cancelled on Saturday as the deluge began early in the morning. The game ended up being a washout in more ways than one.

Enjoy the time while your kids (young adults) are at the Academy and treasure each moment you get to visit with them. The time will fly by. It seemed only yesterday we were standing on the hill beside Ike Hall, and now we are the proud parents of a Cow, and beginning to think about graduation.

Momoftwins, our son could not wait to get back from Houston to help get the Plebes squared away after PPW. He was afraid they may have suffered from lack of guidance.

Also.... GO ASTROS!!!
