I am a parent of an incoming freshman and like seeming many she was dying for an all freshman dorm but has instead been placed on the first floor of Wren.

Do you have any idea or can you find out how many freshman will be living in Wren this year.
Are the suites all freshman or mixed with upperclassmen
Are the suites connected, meaning can students in one suite on a floor just walk into or through another suite?
In the College Prower series Wren (and Haskell) are particularly pointed out as the worst dorms for freshman, do you know why?

My main concern is as you know the all freshman halls most kids just leave their doors open and anyone walking down the hallway can see you and stop in to visit. If the suites aren't open like this that will be really isolating. This will be even more so if the suite is mixed with upperclass students who already have made their groups of friends. If the suites aren't connected like this and half the dorm (or more) is empty during orientation week that will not get things off to a good start either.

Any truthful comments and information you can provide will be much appreciated.

Jj tells me that Wren is a great dorm for freshmen, many of his friends lived in Wren last year and many of his Miller friends are moving to Wren because they like the suite set up.
Each room is off a central "living room." To get from one suite to the next, one must go through others' living rooms. So that should assure you that it is not going to be isolating at all.

The flip side of this: Kids who actually live there bemoan that because anyone can traipse through their living room they can't safely set up a TV / video / poker room as there's no way to secure their belongings.

Your freshman will be able to tell others "c'mon in and say hi" by leaving her door open. :)

There's a Tufts webpage that has the floor plans to all the dorms, I'll have to find it.

I know my son was disappointed that he was not assigned to an all freshmen dorm but after living at Miller with upperclassmen he grew to appreciate how much they took him under their wing, advised him on which professors/courses/sections were best, and so on.

Also, Wren has a GREAT location, right next to the Carmichael Dining Hall, across from the stores on Boston Ave, near the residential quad where your freshman can easily find a frisbee pick-up game, and best of all there's a Joey stop right in front of the dorm. She will love that in the winter when she needs to get downhill or to Davis Square in a hurry and without frostbite. :)

Also, because she's uphill, she'll be near most of her classes on the academic quad.

So, relax, great fun dorm, wonderful location!

Lewis is a pretty big dorm. The doubles are large, and the dresser and closet are immobile, so that cuts down on the choices for rearranging the furniture. It's right across the way from Hodgdon, the takeout dining hall, which is nice in the winter.
