Would it look bad to submit my common app essay under this topic? I think my common app essay is really good and don't really want to write a whole new one, since this school isn't a top 2 choice. Of course I would edit it and put said school's name in it.

This is not a CA school then? Are you suppose to show what the question is? Can you word one that your essay answers without sounding like the CA prompt? That might seem lazy.

The school is not on the CA, only one school I applied to is. Yes, you ‘write the question’ and answer it. I could reword the CA essay prompt.

That’s what I’m wondering, would it look bad to just use my CA essay. Even if I reword it, it would probably be obvious.

My other qualm is that the deadline is Friday. If I have to write an essay in one day, it probably won’t be that good, whereas my CA essay has been revised and it has been reviewed by multiple people.

If you PM me with the concept of your essay and the prompt from the school you’re applying to, I can give you some more specific advice.

I’d do it, but try to make it less obvious. Getting creative with the question, and/or modifying the essay a bit to answer a slightly different prompt. It kind of depends on the school. If it is University of Chicago, which has such an option, I wouldn’t do it. I think they would find it lame. They specifically give you a bunch of prompts that aren’t going to be the usual ones for the reason that they want some fresh unrehearsed responses. But if it is a less competitive school you can probably get away with it.

It’s UMD, my in state public.

OK, after rereading the essay reqs, you had to write two, 300 words or less. For my second one I just copied the main paragraph in my commons app essay for the write your own question. I added a short intro and tailored to the question to just that paragraph. For the other essay, I just wrote one up under their prompts, it seems pretty good.
