Writing A Novel?

Can writing a novel significantly boost your ECs? Not a NYT best-seller, just an insightful, 100-200 page short narrative novel. Please assume I can find a publisher, I have a good plot and storyline, etc. I'm seriously considering it since my ECs are currently VERY weak.

Assuming it gets published and you’re an excellent writer, than yes. That’d be a great edition.

^
Pun intended?

oh yeah! cheesy joke drum! ba dum tsss

At first I just thought you had spelled addition wrong. It took me a minute…

I’m currently writing a novel and I added it to my EC’s. I think it helped in my case because it showed my dedication to what I want to do (I applied to be a writing major). I’m sure it certainly will look impressive if it gets published and turns out well. Are there any other activities you could do to boost your EC’s? What grade are you in?

if you’re just doing it to boost your ECs, don’t do it.

trust me, writing doesn’t work that way. you can only do it if you really want to (of course, deadlines help, but it can’t be something like “my ECs and top choice college are HANGING on this”). you know how much skill (that comes from writing experience and A LOT of exposure to new, brilliant works- not just some bestselling novels) and patience (usually takes a few years to write a 1st draft, go through x many drafts during editing, finding an agent, and finding a publisher) it takes to write a novel? it has to be something you do for yourself, not something you plan to put on a resume. because that will kill your motivation and you REALLY need motivation to write a novel.

I’m not saying don’t write a novel. if you want to, go for it! even trying can be a lot of fun, and every success and step forward gives a huge sense of achievement. but DON’T PLAN IT AS AN EC you will complete. if you get it done, put it down on your apps. but don’t plan to put it on your apps before getting it done.

I agree don’t write a novel for ecs especially if you don’t enjoy writing, but if its something you’ll enjoy doing and are not just doing it for ecs it could be great, maybe even good for a college essay discussing the process
