Writing a supplemental letter to Michigan...

I'm applying to University of Michigan as a transfer student. I'm just now finishing my first year at Virginia Tech and I got a 3.87 GPA first semester, and I want to write some sort of supplemental letter for my application (U of M is the only school I applied to, so I'm trying to do anything in my power to get in). That being said, what should I write it on?

Here's what I'm planning so far...
1-Things I've done since sending my application.
2-An update on my semester grades

What else should I include? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated (or any other general tips). Also, do these letter make a big difference? I was deferred, wait listed, and ultimately turned down last year when I applied as a Freshman, so could this letter possibly be what gets me in?

I think that maybe the admission can get annoyed by receiving stuff that are not required because they so many applications and essays to look and read

When did you apply?

I disagree with lum and think anything more you can give them will make you stand out that much more to the admissions committee. Just be sure not to repeat what is already in your application but perhaps briefly reiterate why Michigan is a better fit. What have you got to lose?

I just applied on January 31st, but I feel like a 1 page letter would really emphasize how much I want to go there. It’s the only school I applied to as a transfer.

Also, I’ve done a few more volunteer things. I’m tutoring a few kids, applying to be a tour guide on campus, and hopefully going to be teaching English to a foreign student. On one hand I’m afraid that I’ll be pestering them, but on the other I think it might make my app stand out a little.

What it comes down to is that I’m losing my mind just waiting for a response, so I’m willing to do anything short of killing a person in order to make my application look any better. I don’t want to look back and wonder whether I did everything I could do to get in…
