Writing about your passion?

I'm an international student writing an essay for Penn State and this is the prompt:

Please tell us something about yourself, your experiences, or activities that you believe would reflect positively on your ability to succeed at Penn State. This is your opportunity to tell us something about yourself that is not already reflected in your application or academic records. We suggest a limit of 500 words or fewer.

I'm applying for a Computer Science major and I have a couple of years of programming experience and I've made some small projects. I have some ECs that I already mentioned in the prompt before this which asked for 'activities'. Is it ok if I talk about how I've worked on improving my programming on my own because its what I'm really passionate about?

My only worry is that I'll come across as too geeky and the adcom might think I'm a stereotype anti-social nerd, which I'm not. I'm pretty outgoing and confident, and I've tried to let the confidence part reflect in my essay too.

So should I go ahead writing this kind of essay?

I doubt the adcom would think you were an anti-social nerd just because you enjoy computer programming. Go ahead and write it; it sounds like a good idea to me.

Thanks for your feedback. I’ll go right ahead and write it. :)
