Even if someone loves writing and is very comfortable with it, is it recommended that an incoming freshman doesn't take a Writing II class first quarter?

Yes. The Orientation Counselor told us that Freshman usually don’t go straight into WII. So I asked them when. They told me either Winter of freshman year or later. It’s cause writing is more difficult and takes more time and energy personally to get it done. And if you dont really have a good grasp on the UCLA speed and system, you might fail and not get your WII at all! not to mention your GPA to slide

Hmmm…darn, all of the Linguistic GE’s I want to take are Writing II. :-/ What if I were to balance it out by taking a really easy GE like Art of Listening? :p

Writing II is so much work. Trust me when I say that it won’t balance out.

i took mine my junior year, and i personally found that it was less writing than my high school english classes… and i don’t even like writing. so i think if you understand that it’s a decent amount of writing (think a paper every 1-2 weeks) you’ll be fine, especially if you really like the subject.

Although…correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t it maybe be a good idea to take it first quarter amidst easy classes so one isn’t taking -all- hard classes during other quarters? You know, try to balance it out a little by level of difficulty?

I thought that writing II was a graduation requirement. Is it also a class?

You already have a hard class first quarter…it’s called Adjusting. No need to have another hard one.
