As the title suggests.I keep reading about how Writing(MC) is so so easy and easiest to improve upon. But I'm regularly getting 8-9 questions wrong. On top of that my essay's not that great either. So I really wanted to nail the MC portion.
I dont want any essay tips(as there are some really great one's on this forum) but puhleese help me out with the MC.My SAT is this october and well,Im desperate!

Dr. Silverturtle wrote quite a guide to the SAT writing section.

Yeah,I know. But its quite small isnt it?I was wondering if it would be good if I sit down with a Wren and Martin or something,or would that be pointless?
And any other tips are welcome(and needed)!

When in doubt, play it by ear. That was my only strategy.

Right. So,um,what are your words on the topic? :)

Well, your topic is rather ambiguous. Just saying, “I need help with writing” isn’t going to get you far. You need to narrow down what you struggle with and work on detecting it on the test. I do believe that my advice related to the topic, regardless. You asked for a tip and I provided one. Normally the answer that sounds natural is the one that is correct. That is the only strategy I followed and got one MC question wrong with.

The writing section of Silverturtle’s guide? You’ve got to be joking.

^Agreed. The writing portion is the creme de la creme of Silverturtle’s entire guide.

kobudnik-oh,so that’s what you meant in your previous post!I kinda interpreted it as ‘just listen to the advice of others when you’re not able to make up your mind’.How dumb of me.Sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks for your advice.
314159265(whew)-Im not saying that the guide is not good. And ;small’ as in a relative sense(think wren and martin).I find it excellent.Much better than a big fat grammar book. However,I’ve already read it and I was wondering if it going more in depth with a grammar book would be of help, since that is the suggestion my friends are giving me.

So,basically I should just review my answers instead of doing more grammar?

Exactly. How are you going to get better if you don’t know what you need to get better on?

Yeah,to tell the truth,i dont really know.On reviewing,my barron’s guide lists different questions in different sections, but that isnt much, just the ‘type’ of question(sentence correction/paragraphs,etc).So that isnt that much of a help. How do you suggest I recognise my weak areas?

Well, I guess the only way to accomplish this is by understanding what you did wrong. Utilize the online answers to the blue book when you take the practice tests. That will show you what you got wrong (i.e redundancy). I can’t really make any recommendations for Barrons. Just look closely at what you’re getting wrong.

Okay,I’ll do that. Thanks a lot for your help kobudnik! :)

Can I have some help on these questions?

Identify the error on the following-
a b c who were involved in the recent d demonstration?
[e] no error.

Sentence correction-

Having revised her dissertation with some care, that her thesis advisor rejected the changes distressed her greatly.

Which is the better correction?

a)she found her thesis advisor’s rejection of the changes greatly distressing.
b)she was greatly distressed about her thesis advisor rejecting the changes.

I’d say E and A, respectively. As for the 8-9 wrong each time. We’re on the same boat ! Well it depends on which book I’m taking it from. BB seems easier IMO.

You’re right.I got the 1st one,but I can’t fully understand the difference b/w the answer’s for the sentence completion.(although I chose (a) too,isn’t (b) also correct?)

I just wanted to thank Kobudnik and Christy for helping me out. I got a 780 in WR with an 11 essay, so thank you! :)

Yay - congratulations!

Did your ear help you out at all lol?

Haha, my ‘ear’ was quite helpful. I think after a lot of practice and concentration, I just started recognising errors. :)

My WR score was quite a surprise for me though, I wouldn’t have thought it possible.
