Writing Programs

Hello;

I am taking a year of college at the local community college, and I am looking to transfer to a school with a good writing program.

Also, will schools look at my SAT score as a transfer student? I didn't do so hot on it, but I have a strong GPA, and hope to have a strong college GPA.

I'm looking for either writing or creative writing, it does not matter which. Location? I do not want to go to the west coast. I currently live in Ohio. I've looked at schools in New York, I've applied for info from around three of them. I'm okay with just about anything else.

Thank you!

The University of Iowa is tops for Creative Writing.

I'd suggest going into the "other college majors" forum and searching "creative writing."

Iowa, like UC Irvine, is renowned for their graduate programs in writing. Make sure you find an undergraduate program if that is what you are looking for.

Schools will look at your SAT. But it will be a much smaller piece of the puzzle than your GPA.

Iowa is the best, hands down. Their graduate program is what gets much of the prestige, but undergraduates reap the benefits of it too. It's actually considered their strongest undergraduate program.

Depending on your stats, you could also try Brown.

One of my friends is dead-set on being a novelist, and she's going there (not sure about the program though. I just know that she loves the school).

Sarah Lawrence for undergrad writing, pretty much what their curriculum revolves around....

Brown is second only to Iowa for graduate studies in creative writing.
