Howdy all,
I'm a student at Ithaca College, about to close out my freshman year in the Exploratory program (fancy name for "undecided"). Ithaca's fabulous, and if anyone wants to know about it, I'd be happy to elaborate. The problem is, I'm pursuing a degree in Writing, and while the writing program here is fine, it's just...fine. I'd rather go to a school with a better program if I can.

My SATs are a 2030 (V:680 M:650 W:700), and my high school GPA was a 2.7, if that matters. First semester GPA was 3.1, but I fully (and have good reason to) expect at least a 3.8 for my next two semesters.

Any suggestions as to schools I should look at? I would greatly appreciate it!

DJAndy,
My S is accepted to Ithaca and we are visiting next week. Writing is one of his main areas of interest. Can you elaborate on why the writing program is just fine and not excellent? One of his other choices is a much smaller school with fewer writing opportunities but the ones they have seem to be excellent. Ithaca's size and the number of different classes in writing sound appealing so trying to learn what might be at issue for you.

The schools he looked at for writing, btw, were Iowa (didn't apply-- too big), Kenyon (rejected) and Oberlin (waitlisted). Oberlin's creative writing program is so good that apparently it's even harder to get into than the conservatory.
