Writing Question: Test #5: Section #6

American journalist [Harriet Quimby, the first woman to pilot a plane across the English Channel], doing it just nine years after the Wright brothers' first powered flight.

c. Harriet Quimby became the first woman to have piloted a plane across the English Channel and did it
d. Harriet Quimby became the first woman to have piloted a plane across the English Channel, accomplishing this feat

in d, why is "accomplishing" correct? I put down d, but as the best choice, but just because it "sounded good"

[Until it ]can be replaced by a faster, more efficient, and more economical means of transportation, trucks will carry most of the freight within and through metropolitan areas.
Why is "until it" incorrect?

Nearly all of the editors of the magazine agree that of the two articles to be published, Fujimura's is the [more exciting].
Shouldn't it be "the more exciting one/magazine"? I read another CC'ers explanation of this (one/magazine is "implied", but "the" is an article, so shouldn't it automatically be followed by a noun?

Thanks in advance :)

Can’t really explain 29, but others I will.

In 5, the noun and parallelism has to follow the parallel modifer after the sentence before it.

In 25, it should be “they” because trucks is plural. Refer to “it” only when it’s singular.

for 5, “this feat” is clearer than “it” and also, “accomplishing” correctly modifies the subject of the main structure, namely, Harriet Quimby.

as explained above

we are allowed to omit “one” or “magazine” in such cases to avoid repetition. consider this:
Of all the girls in our class, Mary is the most beautiful (girl).

thanks guys!
