<p>I recently contacted a Congressman from my state about an internship opportunity. His secretary wanted me to send a resume (which I have) and a brief writing sample. I am not really sure what to make of the "writing sample" do I write something new, or could I send in a paper I wrote? The papers I could send in are vary from 5-10 pages double spaced and covers topics such as Sophocles' Antigone, Cavour's role in Piedmontese Foreign Policy, and Justinian's Reign. Any advice?</p>

<p>Hi! Are you a highschool student?? I actually have asked this question too! It was a couple weeks ago in the parents forum. I got several awesome responses, and they all basically said that it could be virtually anything 1-2 pgs single spaced that demonstrates your writing ability (employers want to see that you are a capable of writing effectively). I am also about to apply for an internship at a congresswoman's office (what a conicidence!)and the sample I am sending in has an actual grade on it and it is regarding a foreign policy topic too.</p>
<p>You can probably send in a sample on any topic but somehting politics related will obviously be a plus.</p>
<p>Actually I am a sophomore in college and I already worked really hard on an application to work at the Smithsonian NMAH, but am just trying to send out a few more applications/resumes. The problem is while I am interested in politics, I am a history major who hopes to go into something academic. Its just that there are a lot more opportunities for politics related internships. </p>
<p>I guess my European Diplomatic History class paper on Cavour's foreign policy will have to do then.</p>
