Hey guys.
Anyone who has taken the SAT and got more than a 700 on the Writing portion please give me some tips?
I'm taking the SAT in less than a week.

Well I got 690, that’s pretty close I guess. The 11 on. The essay brought my score up. My advice is don’t use common examples, they hate clich

Got 8 on essay (
) but rocked MC. For MC, read “The cat watches” as “The (sing. noun) (sing. present verb).” Just break it down like a science in your head. Practice a lot and you’ll get what I mean.

Which book or guide is the best to prepare for the grammar rules in a quick time?
I only have 3 days to revise them!

This helped me rock the writing section.

Got a 790, and a 10 on the essay, and all I can say for the essay is DONT TRY TO SOUND SMART!!! I tried it the first time and got a cumulative of 6. Then I dumbed myself down and got a 10. All they want is for you to state your position, and then defend it with the most generic example you can think of. For the writing portion itself, just learn the rules, like parallelism, subject noun agreement, and the rest. I guess any book should give you the material you need, especially Princeton Review.

I got a 720 with a 75 out of 80 on the questions and an 8 on the essay. For the questions just do your best and remember what your English teacher taught you. For the essay, I only wrote one page out of two and got an 8. I’m not bragging because that score isn’t too great but it did reveal something to me. Quality of writing is better than quantity. Make sure you have a killer intro that grabs the reader and be sure to back up your opinion with hard evidence from literature, history, personal experience, etc. Write with plain speech but with an excellent style. Be sure to not sound pretentious but do throw in some hard vocabulary because it shows that you have mastery over the English language. Best of luck!

True true ^^. I knew tons of SAT vocabulary but only limited myself to 5-7 in my essay.

Twice - 800 with 11 e. The Princeton Review Grammar Smart book is awesome for last minute revision, and remember writing is definitely the most ‘coachable’ of the three sections! Good luck

Thanks guys.
Helps a lot!

I got an 800 with a 10 essay. Advice for essay is to come up with a solid thesis and 3 examples to support it. Standard 5 paragraph is the way to go. For examples think of books you have read, historical figures, or even people from your own life. If you really can’t think of a good example, just make up a person who fits the prompt and supports your thesis.

For the MC, I honestly didn’t study at all, it’s just common sense to me. The writing section does not have complex grammar concepts, it really just tests you on simple proper grammar. Think subject-verb agreement, parallel sentence construction, verb tense agreement, and adjectives vs. adverbs. When in doubt, go with your gut (assuming you speak well and know proper grammar). Practice makes perfect, so practice practice practice! A good way to study is to do practice sections, and read the explanations for the correct answer. This will help you understand the grammar concepts involved.

Good luck!
