Writing to the Admissions Office

This is a repost from the Columbia University forum.

My parents are absolutely insisting that I write to the Columbia admissions office now describing how much I want to go to there. I was deferred ED and have already sent in a letter letting them know they are still my first choice, I think in January or February. As there are only ten days until decisions are out, I sincerely think this is not going to work. Should I write to Columbia? Is this even going to reach the office in time for a read?

I’d call it useless. You applied ED. You sent a letter to tell them that they’re your top choice. Even if the letter was miraculously received before your decision was made, there is a 0% chance it would change the outcome. They already know you are interested. Sending two application fees shows your interest on its own.

If your parents are pushy, maybe an e-mail could suffice? At least that would have a chance of being read. That might appease them.

Good luck!
