writings

An idea that I had, it may be stupid, but...

I enjoy politics and will major in the social sciences, probably political science. I enjoy writing, especially writing short column-sized articles on current events/politics. I don't have space in my schedule, at least this year, to join the school newspaper, which sucks anyway :P. Is there any way to get my writings into the public eye? And would colleges care? Also, I would consider starting a young democrats club (obviously by this statement I am a democrat), but I come from a school where the democratic population is about 4. So, also, are there any other ec's that involve politics that perhaps I could start/ get into? Thanks

From what I can tell, your school paper and school clubs aren’t the best way to demonstrate your talent. I’d look for opportunities outside of school. You may be able to talk your way into an internship at your local paper or writing guest articles for a lesser-known political blog.

There are also contests (Scholastics comes to mind) that award student writers. They have a journalism category.

that sounds like a good idea! I think I will see what I can do.
