Are there any professional publications out there that seriously consider college student submissions on politics? I've talked to my college newspaper but they have said that they only accept submissions with direct links to the local college community. Newspapers ranging from the NYT to local papers with less than 50,000 in circulation have turned out to be too selective--only one of my essays has been published in an actual newspaper (Baltimore Sun, when I was in high school). And I doubt it's because of my writing skills--my submissions have been accepted at the Harvard Crimson, U of Notre Dame, and UVA, only to be rejected when they see I don't have an @college.harvard.edu or another email affiliated with the U.

I'm a freshman at a not-so-elite school, so I really don't have much of a resume for internships. And if I can't get published, I can't build a resume.

I'm not looking to join papers with extremely poor circulation figures and/or editorial standards, like the Undergraduate Times.
