Written up for smoking weed

At UNT, a large group of my friends and I got caught allegedly smoking weed, there was no evidence against us. There was a pipe and one girl took the blame for it. Now we all have to go meet with the dean.... Do you know anyone with similar experiences or what might happen?

I’m assuming by UNT you mean University of North Texas. Look over this page: <a href=“Dean of Students | Division of Student Affairs”>Dean of Students | Division of Student Affairs; and click through to the “Code of Student Conduct” (the first link) and get very familiar with what it says. That is basically that “law” of the university, that both you and the administration must adhere to. The administrators may not follow that when dealing out punishment, but you can force them to. It spells out the rules and potential levels of punishment and appeal procedures, etc. Get legal representation if needed, because you can potentially be charged with a crime.

Also, in the future, be sure that you and your friends know and follow this code of student conduct, too. It seems unjust to get in trouble for a friend’s behavior, but most university codes of conduct say you’re guilty as well if you’re knowingly around people with drug paraphernalia – and the mere possession of it is a violation of the code of conduct. This is even in states that have “legalized” marijuana. Universities have their own rules.

I love how you mention that you were caught “allegedly” smoking weed. Either you were, or you were not smoking weed, Ms. Future Criminal Defense Attorney. The existence of paraphernalia may carry its own punishment via the University.

Stay away from people smoking weed in a state where it is illegal.

Just tell the truth, whatever it is, and throw yourself on their mercy. We all were young once, and most of the parents here were young in the 60’s and 70’s. It isn’t a horrible offense. But be smarter in your friend choice in the future.

Just be smarter about your smoke spots man, cause we all know you were smoking weed and I’m fine with that. But there is no way your all standing around doing nothing wrong university police come up and randomly search you without a reason and find a pipe on you. I don’t even think they can search you if your not doing anything wrong, just standing around.

Maybe you weren’t smoking but someone was smoking weed there.

Also it really shouldn’t be a big deal at all, school will probably give you some sanctions but won’t get real police involved because that’s another crime stat they don’t want public to know. At my school everything is handled by upd, someone died in a fight a little over a decade ago and police weren’t brought in.
