So after recently applying to a college and selecting political science as my major, or so I though, I get the typical college thanks for applying to our school as a pre-******* major.
I applied as a political science major not the pre-soandso major. Why it showed up idk, but I want to call/email the school to fix this but then I dont want it to negatively effect my admissions decision. So would it be better to to get in touch with the admin office or change majors once im accepted?

Change majors once accepted, I guess. Pre-soandso isn’t a common major so it’ll help you. But they do give positions to those who put on app first meaning if they run out of space and you want to change, you’re done for. But email them to change the major anyway just in case.

Depends on the school, and what that means to you/them. Will it help you in admissions, hurt, or do nothing? But keep in mind that certain schools’ financial packages might include scholarships based on your major. It can be “undecided”, but probably shouldn’t be out-and-out wrong. Maybe you bubbled in a number incorrectly somewhere…or THEY did. At any rate, my D has two schoolsl that Do offer scholarships, depending on your major…and she’s already received “direction admission, including scholarship” to one of those schools. Another school offers scholarships to "Women in Science:…so, if one list the wrong major they might not be eligible. Other schools are desperate for certain genders, etc in particular fields. Bottom line, probably want to get that fixed.

I was thinking it would be better to call them and fix it since my major of choice and the major im currently applied for have nothing in common. Both majors are not to big at the school, I would disclose the University and mixed up major but im to paranoid it will give away who I am and it is my first choice school so I really do not want to blow it.

Presumably, your major comes through throughout your application and you should be consistent. I mean, let’s say you want to be a theatre major, and you write about the first time you were on stage. And all your ECs show theatre experience, and your rec is from the theatre dept head. It would look totally wrong for you, a terrible math student, to have Biology or physics or applied math as your major, right? So my vote is to email them and straighten it out.

^Agreed, ill be fixing the problem tomorrow.
