Wrote wrong school in essay.

I just submitted my Wake application, and they require seven essays. In the final essay--last sentence, I accidently called Wake GWU. Is this fatal? I caught it a day after the due date and sent an apology email, as well as an apology/explanation letter along with a revised copy of the essay. What is likely to happen. Will it affect my chances at admission?

You will be rejected, probably.

Yeah. Probably.

that sucks

That's kinda insane though that they require seven essays. Are they mainly short ones or what?

I'm sure it's not that uncommon, but look on the bright side: if you get rejected, now you can honestly say that there was a good reason besides "you" and what you had to offer. It was instead a result of carelessness. :D

I don't mean to put you in a worse mood, but stating a different college in your essay is pretty bad. But I do think that you did the right thing by contacting them immediately and sending a revised essay..maybe if you are a strong candidate they will forgive your mistake..? hopefully

good luck with everything though, i hope that everything goes in your favor :)

you are toast

giggles ^^

Psst...it's no secret that you're applying to lots of schools. We're not shocked to see another school named. It happens all the time with recs.

It's not a great mistake to make, but there's no way that sort of thing would make or break your application.

Haha, I wouldn't call them "seven essays." As I recall, there was one long essay, a Why Wake? short answer, and the rest were extremely short short answers (as in a couple of sentences).

i had to write the following:

why wake?

Why wake over your current college? (I have an existing transcript at Dartmouth)

Whats a challenge for your generation?

Character in literature?

Describe yourself in 50 words

Describe a change of opinion you have had

Greatest intellect of our time

What have you recently read that you have found enlightening

By my count that's 8, so thats true, I guess we shouldnt call it 9 essays.

I applied via the school website so it may have been different.

and all of mine were quite long so it may have felt like more.

Call the school, and ask if you can send the last page of that essay via fax, with the mistake corrected.

Somebody else on here said they were able to do this for another school.

awesome thanks.

call them, this is the most common mistake that has been mentioned over and over by college guides

haha i wrote the wrong college too. I sent the admissions rep an e-mail and she was so nice about it. she said

Hi Martin,

Thank you for acknowledging your mistake! Believe me, there are many students in your position. Few, however, take the time to correct their essay.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance!

Sincerely,

Kristen

haha no doubt--it looks like it worked in your favor when it showed them you were committed. nice

so does this mean that if we caught typos after submitting our apps (like minor ones, repeating a word, etc), should we contact the school? i really want to but i don't want to draw attention to my mistakes

I wrote CMU instead of Northwestern on my NU app 2 years back, and I got in ...

I did contact them immediately and sent in a revised essay, so you probably did the right thing :D

Don't worry too much, the adcoms are human too ....

Personally, I don't think it is a big deal, as someone said, it's not a secret that you'de be applying to different schools. That being said, I heard one admissions rep from the University of Chicago say that they did not look favorably when that happens because it shows a lack of original thought..if you're saying the same thing about different schools, and it shows a lack of attention to detail. As long as you've corrected your mistake all you can do now is leave it up to whoever is reading your application to decide. Hopefully they threw the old essay out and replaced it with the revision. It won't be THE deciding factor.
