WUSTL Conditional Admission

Did anyone get a conditional admission? If so, are you planning to meet the criteria? Do you know anyone who recieved one? I got one and am still deciding on it

What are the conditions?

I have to “successfully” complete a 5-week summer program at washu with 2 classes, including calculus (they didnt tell me the other one). Its $4,000

Hmmm…interesting. I hadn’t heard of something like that before. I guess it depends on how badly you want to go to WUSTL and what your other options are. How do they define “successfully”? C or better?

And, I guess if you planned to work and make $ this summer its going to cost you more than $4K as you will miss out on $ you could have earned during that time.

I’ve heard this before. At Notre Dame they require you to take certain classes before starting your freshman year. Its a requirement to have taken certain classes such as Calculus in order to gain admission to the university/and or to study a certain major. So they are accepting you only if you take the class. That’s really nice that they are giving that option and didn’t just reject you outright because you didn’t meet their minimum requirements.

I’m assuming WashU does the same thing.

Congrats getting in! :slight_smile:

@doschicos Its between OSU, U of Ilinois, and Washu. Out of all, Washu gave me the most money, by a long shot! Your right, i would miss out on some money from my summer job, but it might be worth it to go there! Lol

@newjersey17 Thanks! I hadnt heard of it before either. It makes sense though, I believe Im a good applicant, minus my Precalculus and Physics grade Sophmore year haha

Sounds like you should go to WUSTL to me. If they make it worth your while financially relative to your other options, which are fine options, but to me not as stand out as WUSTL, to give up a part of your summer sounds like a no brainer. Just make sure you understand what “successfully” complete means. You’ll also have a head start getting comfortable on campus, a few credits under your belt, etc. before the other first years show up. Best wishes for continued success!

@doschicos Thanks! Yea im definately leaning more toward washu at this point for obvious reasons

@Peacesign1

I know everyone goes into these things with the utmost optimism, and I hate to be the wet blanket but what happens if you don’t pass? Since you would have opted out of the other two schools, you are essentially looking at either a forced gap year or community college. I suppose one could argue about the ethics of putting students in this position. Perhaps it would be better to just say yea or nay and make it clean. But I tend towards the side that says choice is good and you and your parents (and CC) ought to be able to make a thoughtful decision.

I would suggest, though, that you also think through that scenario with them. If, after all the considerations, you decide on WUSTL, then it is important that you compartmentalize the negative outcome completely away and go in as optimistic and determined as possible. Odds are heavily in your favor to succeed I am sure. But should the 1% happen, at least you will know what the next steps are.
