ok ok, after reading this you will probably think I am very immature, but I am just being honest, and you can't blame me for being so ignorant as a teenager.

I like WUSTL pretty much only because it is a top academic university, and it is about 5 miles from my house. I have legacy here, and if I go here I can go to any Blues, Cardinals, or Rams game I want. However, I have visisted there 3 times, and have been there with friends, and let me tell you the women there are awful. The drinking life is huge, but im not a big drinker at all. I also don't realy want to stay in state.

USC on the other hand is a wonderful school (as u all kno) but is not on par with WUSTL in terms of academics or overall ranking. Personally, I really want to go here because I think i need to be thrown into LA BY MYSELF because I'll be honest with you to the fact that my parents have guided me all my life, and its time i get something done on my own. I also LOVE the beach possibilities in LA and the GIRLS!!!!

So I'm basically torn, WUSTL is probably a better choice academically, but I really want the TOTAL college expereince and what will make me happier...what are your thoughts on my immature views?!

Choosing a school because you don't perceive yourself enjoying life at the others? I don't see that as immature. What is it you'd be majoring in?

Plenty of people choose USC over supposedly better schools for the college experience USC offers, and this includes the academic experience as well as it's certainly not lacking. And as you said, USC is a top-notch school in its own right, so it's not exactly like you're choosing between Yale and Colorado State (no offense rams). In fact, I know good friends who've chosen USC over the following schools...

friend 1: Penn, Cornell
friend 2: Caltech, Berkeley
friend 3: Transferred from Berkeley
friend 4: UCLA (w/Regents), Berkeley (w/Regents), Stanford

And of course, this is only among my friends so certainly the actual number of people who've chosen USC over what the CC Community would consider better schools (note I only have UCLA mentioned because they goy a Regents Scholarship) is much, much larger. Do you what your heart tells you to do, and who knows; maybe other intangibles too like the Trojan Network will be more than enough to make up for the disparity between USC and WUStl's rankings.

I would like to major in business, and I know the Marshall school of Business has a better reputation than the business program at WUSTL, but academically overall, how far off is USC?

I choose USC over Hopkins (for Bioengineering) which are both supposedly "better" schools because USC just seems like a better fit for me...The students at Hopkins study "all the time" and the atmosphere is very competitive and that is not the type of student that I am....

If academics are what you are worried about, dont choose the "better" school, choose the one that fits you as a student....Like themegastud said, you arent choosing between Yale and CSU (HAHA Rams suck!....sorry, thats personal) especially if you are going to USC for business...both schools are great...

One more thing...Reading through your post it seems like you may have some parental pressure on you to choose WUStl (for whatever reason...legacy, prestige, etc) and this is the absolute wrong way to choose a school....If I am completely wrong, ignore this paragraph lol...

Good Luck!

I chose USC over Georgetown and UCLA, because I want to major in business. Sure maybe academics overall may not be as good at USC as they are at the other two, but you have to go where the specific major is strongest. Because who really cares how good the pre-med or political science is at a school if you don't plan on majoring in it? In my opinion go where you think the major is strongest, oh yah and USC will be a lot more fun haha.

ya along with what cubs rule said...my parents are putting a lot of pressure on me to choose WUSTL because they hate the thought of me leaving...kinds sucks. They also told me they would get me season tickets for the cardinals if i stayed!!! But I believe USC is a better fit for me, so thats why its my #1!

jonkt, is USC a pretty good school for polysci? thats what i plan on majoring in along with biology as a second major. i looked at the coureses they offered in the field and i was impressed. But overall, do you know if its a good school for polysci?

Jonkt345's point is pretty good. Just to re-emphasize the most important aspect of college -- the women -- last time I checked, lotta' ugly broads at Washington U; plenty of sexy, smart blondes at 'SC.

^word haha.

Student4u, I was just giving a hypothetical example, I have no idea how good USC's poly sci is. But if you looked up the courses and were impressed then, I'm sure its pretty good. Maybe someone else knows?

Am I good or what? Haha....jk....I just recognized my own thought process and justification for the "better" school....Like I said, dont let this be your deciding factor (unless your parents wont pay for USC or something like that...)
