I’m looking into both of these schools for creative writing. WUSTL offers a program in English with a concentration in creative writing while Brown offers a Literary Arts program (again, concentrated on creative writing). I would love to either be a fiction writer or a screenwriter. However, if that doesn’t work out, I would love to have a school with many back ups. Which school is better for what I aspire to do?
Bump
Are you a rising senior trying to decide where to apply? If so, why not apply to both? Then if you get accepted to both, you can decide between them. Both schools are very selective so even if your stats are high you aren’t guaranteed to get into either.
@me29034 I want to apply ED to one of them so I’m hoping to figure out if there’s one school that I really like.
Both schools will have many options for you if you decide to change your major. That isn’t a way to decide between them, unless you know what your second choice might be and one school is clearly better in that major.
Have you visited both schools? No one here can really tell you which school is best for you to apply to ED. If you don’t have a clear favorite then maybe its best not to apply ED to either.
@me29034 I haven’t visited WUSTL yet, but I’m almost certain I’m going to apply to Brown ED because I love the school and my family is close.
Brown any day.
@Arman23 why?
Here is a CC excuse: US News.
My reason: Brown has a great writing program and since it has no core curriculum, you can focus on the types of writing you like.
^ Note that by USNWR rankings, Brown is currently one place higher in its category. However, by the standardized scoring of their students, WUStL is 12 places higher when compared to all colleges nationally (“The 50 Smartest Colleges in America,” Business Insider).
More relevantly and substantively, WUStL’s creative writing offerings appear to be among the broadest and deepest in the nation.
