here's the thing.
I haven't really decided what I want to do yet, but I do know that it is in the math/sciences.

Nwern: I would major in statistics and I got into MMSS
WUSTL: I would obviously go into pre-med
Berkeley: I got into the College of Chemistry, which is known for being extremely cut throat xx
and i would have to pay OOS tution

I don't want to pigeon hole myself, but I also don't want to regret my decision
please help? :)

You are smart to not pigeon hole yourself. Have you visited any of these schools? Do you have any feelings about the larger state school versus the smaller private schools? Does it worry you that California has severe budget issues and how that might affect UCB?

I am assuming by your post that either the cost of attending is similar among the 3, or it isn’t an issue for you and your family.

You may go into NU thinking statistics, or WashU thinking pre-med, but you may change your mind, in which case you want to be at the school that you like best because it just fits you best as a person. Hard to judge without a visit. It is getting late, but not too late. See what you can do.

I’ve heard WUSTL has a 6 year pre-med program, so I say there.

Poseidenj - I am not sure to what you refer, but there is no pre-med major (at Wash U or anywhere else) and hence no 6 year pre-med program that I know of. To be “premed”, you only have to take 2 biology courses, one year each of general and organic chemistry courses with labs, and most med schools like to see Physics and Calculus. You can major in anything you want; as long as you take those courses you have fulfilled the prerequisites for med schools.

wow, i just found this and it just so happens that these are the exact 3 choices i have it narrowed down to. and i too plan on going into the sciences. as of right now im leaning torwards northwestern but washu is a close second. to the OP, did you make a decision yet? id be interested to know which one you chose.

i chose to go to berkeley because in the end, it gives me better options, even though it’s such a competitive school
i hope that helps :P

oh yeah, and it was the same with me too. my order was northwester, wustl, and last, berkeley
however, if you really read up on the programs and who is teaching the courses and the breadth of courses available, i found berkeley to be the best fit
