I'm planning to apply to West Virginia University the is fall, i am a out of state student and have some questions surrounding this school.

-What is the environment like in the campus?
- How are the dorms?
- Is the food good?
-Besides it being a party school, is it some how peaceful?

anything would be great. I'm planning to visit this summer, but that's long from now so i want to here what you guys think.

My son goes to WVU, he likes it. A LOT of freshmen live in the Towers on the Evansdale campus, which is quieter than downtown. The Towers are pretty nice, food is decent. From what I hear, the dorms don’t get too crazy because the RAs and staff are pretty strict. The crazy partying is done in the off campus housing. As a matter of fact, my son’s RA called to introduce himself last August before move in and to tell us it was strictly a dry dorm. I’m not saying there’s never any alcohol in the dorms, but they keep it quiet and low key if there is. What are you planning on majoring in? My son is home for spring break right now, I’ll ask him to post a response when he gets up.

Thanx for the repsonse. I want to major in history.

At WVU, you can pretty much create whatever kind of environment you want. If you want peace and quiet, you can have it. If you want to party 24/7, you could probably do that too. The new Honors dorm is really nice, if you have the stats try for that. The people are welcoming and friendly. At WVU, and this is probably true at any large university (although West Virginians are particularly down to earth and friendly, and they make up half the student body) you can find your niche whether you’re a nerd, jock, partier, intellectual, artsy, whatever. And, if you want to, you can change your niche.

How easy is it really to get accept because many people have told me.

Sorry for the poor grammar. What I meant to say was, how easy it is to get accepted because many people told that it is very east

would i get in with a 85-86 average?? i have taken 3 AP classes and I’m only a junior. I’m in a honors program in my school and ive been taking Honors classes throughout my high school career. As a senior next year i will be have a full schedule with English honors, Pre Calc, AP European history and etc… Do you guys think i have a chance???

You shouldn’t have problems getting accepted.

WVU has a high acceptance rate due to it being the flagship university in a small and poor state.

Most other flagship schools have this same mission, however they displace the students through satellite campuses (think PSU).

WVU is very student friendly. Most freshman live in Towers, which is on the Evansdale Campus. Towers is a “typical” dorm with a good dining hall. It’s a great place to live freshman year and it allows you to get to know a large percentage of your class. If you are a social person you will make lots of friends very easily.

WVU’s reputation as a party schools is both accurate and exaggerated. It’s a fun school that definitely does have parties and a strong social scene, but I really can’t say it’s anymore wild than other large schools like PSU, Wisconsin, Michigan, OSU, ect. It’s been tamed a great deal within the past 10 years, still lots of fun, just a bit more mild.

You will have no problem finding peace and quiet. They have an awesome library downtown that is a great place to study in (very modern) and there’s all types of quiet places you could slip away too.

It’s a very nice campus, great place to spend four years of your life. It provides a very good all around college experience with academics, social activities and athletics. It’s considered to have some of the strongest school spirit of any college in the nation and you will see why at your first football game.

Morgantown itself is growing. There has been alot of new development in the last few years with new residential, retail and food complexes constructed.

Remember, WVU/Morgantown is a college town. Nearly everything that goes on in that town revolves around the school, which is something I really liked.

That’s sounds awesome!! Thank you for your comment

Towers is on the Evansdale Campus so you will have to use the PRT to attend classes downtown. It’s actually pretty convenient and unique to WVU. It has a reputation for breaking down, but in my time at WVU it only happened to me once and it was for about 20 minutes.

The best dorm is probably Boreman South. It’s downtown and has much bigger rooms. They are actually 2 dorm rooms, two rooms each - 2 people in each dorm, connected by a bathroom. They also don’t have a sign in desk, just RAs. It has a smaller dining hall but it’s fine, better than some cafeterias I’ve seen at smaller schools.

Does anyone know about the history program at wvu???

Is it to much of a party school ?

Partying is done in dorms, not just off campus. High street is always packed with drunk girls and guys that start fights. Weekends are 7 days a week. Clubs and bars are the only social outlet 3/4 of the time. It is too much of a party school. Its not tame either.

Quiet hours are strictly enforced in my son’s dorm. There’s plenty of things to do for kids who aren’t into partying. Do you think 20,000 undergrads are ALL on High Street Friday night?

No…not 20,000. Some are too drunk/stoned to leave the dorms.

Seriously…WVU is a major party school 7 days a week. That said…there are serious students that either don’t party or know how to balance academics and partying. However, I do believe the latter is much rarer than the intense partyers. Just my opinion…

hmm…I guess I’m just hearing it from an engineering student’s perspective. Maybe it depends what major you are in, or whether you live in Evansdale vs. downtown.

if youre worried about noise check out the honors dorms. on each floor there is a study room with shound proof walls. i think the honors dorms are the best on campus.

Im out of state and i fear that i after i graduate im going to be in debt
