The thing people don’t think about in regards to Valedictorians when they refer to statistics and schools who “boast” they turn down xxx number of valedictorians is this - there are between 25-30 thousand high schools in the united states…SO statistically - every school would have to turn down most of the valedictorians that apply. The other thing to consider is that a Valedictorian at one school could have a 105 average and be in a class with 500 kids and a Valedictorian at another school could have a 99 average and be in a class of 90 kids. There are two many variables to worry about these things!
Be confident and remember if its not Yale it will be somewhere else - you’ll be happy wherever you end up.
Good Luck.
True, but also depends on how schools weight their courses. @allgood2022
Yeah that’s pretty common, the student led interview has a 30 min limit to them. The only time when they extend pas that mark is if the conversation is interesting and if you ask a lot of questions. The day I went for an on-site mine was about 45 mins as well, and I was the last one to finish my interview out the group that was waiting in the undergrad office. So I would say 45 mins is a very good time, especially if the conversation was fluid. It seems to be that alumni interviews are often times on the lengthier side.
Guys. I know that everyone is anxious and trying to “read the tea leaves” to try and get some clue. But this talk about how long (or well, for that matter) the interview went is not really helpful. Unless you showed up wearing a Charles Manson t-shirt or with a copy of your newly awarded Nobel prize letter, it probably makes little or no difference. Yale is pretty clear on their web site that they try and grant as many interviews as possible - and these are not given a lot of weight in the decision process. I am as anxious as the next person about this, and if there was a real hint, I would jump at it. But length and qualify of interview is just not it. So lets just take a deep breath, sit back and enjoy (or obsess)…
Just found this thread. People who applied to yale thru questbridge got results today.
Also, theres pretty much a 100% chance I’m going to be rejected on the 14th.
Sorry about the spam, but I had an interview about a week or two before Thanksgiving break. It mostly wasn’t awkward at all and it was a free flowing conversation. Overall, I thought it was okay, except he set an alarm for the length of the interview and only let me ask 1 question because time was up. (He also didn’t like Harry Potter. Fake.)
@cliffnotes I feel ya L-)
My interview went okay, nothing too special/no special “click” or anything. We talked a little about art history and dance but I feel like it was pretty average? 2 weeks until decisions though ahHHHH
My friend got into Yale through Questbridge today!!! Super excited for her
Any other international students on here?
Canadian here! Anyone else?
I got into Yale through questbridge!!!
OMG Congratulations!!! @antwaine
CONGRATULATIONS!!! @antwaine
@antwaine Congratulations!!
i’m a yale RD applicant but i turned in my app already and i had a quick question. so i’ve published and presented a research poster so i selected to submit a research/engineering supplement but my poster is about the effect of a certain legislation and so it’s not hard scientific research. is there anyway i could remove the form for the scientific supplement from my portal?
also congratulations! @antwaine
@mli701 I would probably contact the Admissions Office with that question…
I heard that about 50% of the applicants from the EA reound are deferred. Do Yale rank the deferred list?
Historically about 60% are deferred from SCEA to RD. There is no ranking done of those or of waitlisted students but the SCEA deferred group has always had a higher admit rate than the RD group so just making that cut is a good sign.
Higher admit rate among the SCEA deferred pool is probably due to
a) stronger pool as a whole relative to the RD pool; and
b) demonstrated interest in Yale even though Yale claims it doesn’t track interest (I bet it takes that into consideration whether consciously or not).
