My daughter was deferred. And now to start the waiting again…
Do we happen to have an accepted students thread?
Denied. Sucks because it was my dream school. Weird to think that I will never be able to spend my 4 years of college there and that was the only place I envisioned it happening. Really sad. I don’t know how Ill be able to go to any other school.
Accepted!
Accepted! Couldn’t believe it at first!
I’m really confused as to why there is over a $20,000 discrepancy between the Net Price calculator and my aid letter-- I’ll be working with the financial aid office in January I guess
@Benji3025 I have a problem with financial aid as well! Please pm me with what they say because I’m a little lost with the whole appealing process
Is it more likely for Yale to accept deferred students than regular decision students?
I don’t believe that because you are deferred there is any advantage or disadvantage when you go into the RD round by virtue of your deferred status. You will be compared to the applicant pool still at play. If there is any consolation, realize that 29% of SCEA applicants were denied. The applicants for the SCEA tend to be stronger than the RD pool. However, you have to consider the following. At this point almost 900 (894) spots have been taken. Last year Yale admitted 2,272 students against approximately 33,000 total applications. If we do some simple math, using last year’s numbers, there are about 1400 spots left and there will be about 31,000 applications (RD plus deferred) chasing those spots. Don’t give up hope, but time for Plan B.
The way I see it is that Yale is likely out of the picture (though I’ll update them with any new accomplishments between now and early February), but at least they saw something in us that other selective schools on our lists will hopefully deem worthy of an acceptance.
@Benji3025 hey man I was rooting for ya to get in! I got a bit of an aid issue too (though less severe than yours) so hopefully we both see each other next year!
Harvard’s acceptance rate for deferred SCEA students is 2.3%, so less than RD. It is probably similar for Yale and other such schools. So, one has a chance, but shouldnt get their hopes up.
@RobertHughes Thanks so much–it means a lot! I hope to see you in New Haven next year or at Bulldog Saturday/ Bulldog Days this April! Best of luck and enjoy the rest of your senior year
Is there a RD thread for Yale yet?
Ahh! Just got my acceptance packet in the mail today—it all feels so real now. Congrats to all others accepted! And to those rejected and deferred—it will all work out in the end—it always does; there are so many amazing colleges and Yale is just one of them out there.
I remember-reading at one time that the admit rate for deferred SCEA students exceeded the RD admit rate. This would make sense in that this group already made one cut in a competitive applicant pool. Even so, this is the time to find other target and safety schools and put in as much effort into those essays as the SCEA one.
I made an accepted applicants thread! http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/2042936-yale-university-class-of-2022-accepted-thread-p1.html?new=1
is there n RD thread?
hi! I have a question. I took 2 sat subject tests, I have a 780 on math 2 but a 690 on physics. Should I submit both or just one?
bookluver04, I took two sat subject tests, and I ended up with an 800 on math 2 and a 680 on literature. I only submitted the math 2 & they still accepted me SCEA. However, I have also seen people that have been accepted with scores in the upper 600 range on one of their tests, so neither option will absolutely kill your chances for admission. Best of luck to you in the admissions process!
