Yale 2022 Applicants Discussion

@LondonVall No shame (but admittedly bit of embarrassment). This is who I am so if they don’t accept me then I don’t belong there haha

I think my worst decision was to write an entire essay about tanks

@LinusChang I’ve driven a tank before! I’d say that you could formulate a 650 word essay about that easy

@LinusChang truthfully, a tank essay sounds like the coolest thing ever

@MyDogsNameIsFat omg the greatest showman will be on repeat tomorrow for me as well

Hm. I haven’t actually ever shared any of my essay stuff, this is like my second comment on here! but I hope this helps anyone next year for inspiration on what to say…it was so hard to fit myself into 125 words! I absolutely don’t know if I got in, there are so many qualified applicants out there it just amazes me with how smart and accomplished everyone is! The future is looking up! AGAIN I haven’t gotten in and I probably won’t! so perhaps this was the wrong way to go…I feel kind of bad because everyone’s answers seem so intelligent! :’( good job guys!!

1: I’m a night owl by nature, whether I’m binging GOT or looking for a partner for Queen karaoke. Yet I always make time for others, whether it’s for advice or even just dessert

  1. I'd ask Aaron Swartz what he considers to be the ethical and innovational implications of removing net neutrality, especially in an age where both terrorism and misinformation are internet-aided

3: Star trek inspires me. Space offers unimaginable possibilities, which fill be with enthusiasm for tomorrow. I’m inspired to boldly go and innovate in realms untrodden

  1. The Suble art of mastering Homecoming Court dances: for the ill-coordinated, tone deaf, and possessors of two left feet

Good luck to everybody <3 I hope everyone has gotten into schools that you love so far! Currently I’m in between two schools but if I get in tomorrow I don’t know how I’ll possibly decide due to everything Yale offers!

  1. Talked about my love of food. How I would like to try all 14 butteries and the pizza in New Haven with my roommates to connect/unwind with them
  2. Hippocrates, a strong figure in the history of medicine. I ask whether medicine is more of an art or a science.
  3. I am inspired to act by the limited amount of time I have on this earth. take advantage of every moment
  4. "Clinical Judgement" focuses on the intersection between philosophy and medicine, and how knowledge in medicine does not equate to wisdom needed in the clinical decision making involved.

@Coquelicot629 I wrote one of my MIT essays about Star Trek!
I actually had the reputation at my junior high for being that weird girl who sometimes wore her Star Trek and Doctor Who uniforms/costumes to school :)) X_X

Any future med students on here know any scientific ways to calm down and get rid of all this adrenaline? It’s almost 3 AM over here and the butterflies just hit (when they actually feel more like pterodactyls)

@LondonVall playing challenging games or watching thriller movies help out. Adrenaline is produced in fear, stress, and challenging situations. If you manage to change the situation you’re in, your brain will do the rest.
Anyone, correct if I’m wrong.

I put an emoji in my short take and got in EA. Glad that worked out :))

@LondonVall I don’t know any scientific ways off the top of my head, but I would suggest taking a warm shower or reading an interesting book. Usually does the trick for me

I’ve loved everyones short takes. Here are mine (some cringe-worthy wording choices, but I still feel like it all represents the true me, and lol star trek theme here):

  1. What inspires you?
My family, from my sometimes exasperating, but often loving twin brother to my hard-working parents, never ceases to inspire me when I need focus in my life.
  1. Yale’s residential colleges regularly host intimate conversations with guests representing a wide range of experiences and accomplishments. What person, past or present, would you invite to speak? What question would you ask? I would invite Gene Roddenberry and ask “Which original Star Trek episode means the most to you, and why?”
  2. You are teaching a Yale course. What is it called? From Klingon to Shyriiwook: An In-Depth Study of Languages and Linguistics in Science Fiction
  3. Most first-year Yale students live in suites of four to six people. What would you contribute to the dynamic of your suite? I am an easy-going, creative, and idea-driven friend that makes music, discusses the latest novels, and plays a wicked game of Monopoly.

I’ve loved reading everyones short takes! Idk if I like these anymore lol, but here are mine:

  1. What inspires you? I am inspired by my brother because he is both hardworking and relaxed. He reminds me that it is possible to achieve my goals without overworking myself.
  2. Yale’s residential colleges regularly host intimate conversations with guests representing a wide range of experiences and accomplishments. What person, past or present, would you invite to speak? What question would you ask? I would invite Marilyn Monroe, an actress who was often relegated to a sex symbol or a “dumb blonde.” I would ask her how she feels about how women are currently portrayed in the media.
  3. You are teaching a Yale course. What is it called? It is called Dance and Society, a course striving to explore how society’s values affect the ideas expressed in the current dance forms. It would look at dance history as well as the present.
  4. Most first year Yale students live in suites of four to six students. What would you contribute to the dynamic of your suite? As a dancer of both Indian and Western styles, I would add a multicultural perspective as well as some artistic flair to the dynamic of my suite.

Did anyone else not get an email informing you when they would be releasing decisions? Is it a bad thing if I didn’t get one? Sorry if I sound paranoid just noticed I recieved a similar email from other ivies but not Yale

No one got one @Pastpower

gm all Ivy anxious.
Today’s sunset may bring new sunshine in your lives.

  1. Inspires: The windswept, tragically beautiful landscapes of Idaho and Wyoming
  2. Suite: A love of music and regular tickets to Toad's (if you don't know what Toad's is and 'you just love Yale', you're misguided. I think this one probably really stood out bc I'm from Idaho)
  3. Person: David Bowie
  4. Yale course: High Desert Scrubland: An Investigation and Appreciation of the Ecological, Economic, and Aesthetic Value of the Intermountain Sagebrush Plains.

Lol-my “What Inspires You” is just a stream of consciousness list with everything from Pixar movies to Leslie Knope :-S

My answers were not so serious. I’m pretty sure I talked about Bigfoot in one of my responses, LOL
