Yale 2022 Applicants Discussion

@writergirl0316 In the Heights is my LIFE

@Benji3025 Smh don’t feel that way!!! They definitely accepted you for a reason, because even if you don’t seem as impressive as your peers, they recognized that you have a lot of potential. Plus, I’m sure you won’t feel that way at Yale since its known for having such a welcoming community anyway :slight_smile:

@vghsstudent2108 @writergirl0316 Hamilton’s “My Shot” is all that was playing in the background as I tried to finish writing my essays like an hour before the deadline

@LondonVall Omg that and “nonstop”

I’ve been blaring country music and trying to chill before spring break. Good luck to all y’all tomorrow!!

Soon, all this stress will be over for us. Ah, I can’t wait for tomorrow!!! I really hope the best for all the people on this thread, no matter the result.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

Also, one of the things I really love about this thread is just how much of a community it feels like and everyone is so talented and funny. I’m rooting for y’all wherever you end up

@habitualnerd omg same Luke Bryan tho :x and Turnpike Troubadours

I’ll be praying for everyone!!!

@himym12345 I applied SCEA to Yale, and I never received a link to my portal either. I called them and they quickly sent me a link!

hi i’m coming back to this thread after being rejected SCEA! after getting rejected, i was incredibly disheartened and lost all hope of getting into anything other than my safeties, however in the last week, i have been accpeted to both Northwestern and Georgetown! My stats were not anything special for Northwestern and that came as a great surprise. Just wanted to come back to wish you all luck and say that even if you do not get in, it is not a measure of who you are. We put so much pressure on getting into the ivies, but there are tons and tons of fantastic schools out there, and wherever you go, you are all so smart that you will thrive and make a difference regardless. best of luck, and remember that the college process is a lot more impersonal than you think, a lot of times it’s random, and more often than not, schools are trying to put together a diverse and well-rounded class. Getting rejected does not mean you are not qualified, they want students of all different backgrounds, ethnicities, interests, from all 50 states and many different countries. my mom always told me to think of it as you were not “selected” rather than you were “rejected”. anyway, getting off my soapbox, best of luck to all, go bulldogs!

@cavsin7 why do you think you were accepted? your essays?

@ambkeegan yeah, i do think my “why northwestern” essay was really strong! also i think i stand out a bit, i’m from an all-girls catholic school in Cleveland, only 81 girls in my class. i had a ton of strong extracurriculars and recommendations, and my essay showed interest in my intended major (radio/tv/film). at the end of the day, though, it was probably mostly luck! completely unexpected!

I’ve been checking this thread for weeks. It is very comforting to know that I am not the only one who has been trying not to go crazy.

Hey everyone, Just wanted to say good luck!

I’m also curious about what all of you wrote for your short takes.

  1. What dynamic do you bring to the suite?
  2. Who would you invite, and what would you ask?
  3. What inspires you?
  4. What Yale course?

@MatthewW12 The character limits for these questions really made this really difficult for me!

  1. By the end of the year, my roommates will be so well versed in knowledge of world affairs and parliamentary procedure that our suite will be more peacefully and diplomatically run than most countries

2.Chagatai Khan, the son of Genghis Khan who inherited the central asian empire. I’d ask him how he managed to maintain order and peace over such a diverse population. We could use the answer.

3.The thought of my first ancestor to step onto American soil in chains. I hope to achieve success that they never thought possible for a person of my color in this nation. I want to blow their mind.

4.My time in AFJROTC, a student run program, has fully prepared me to teach Intro to Confusing Instructions: How to “Hurry Up and Wait”.

I definitely didn’t answer with as much maturity and eloquence as @LondonVall haha. I decided to put my personality on full display. Goes to show how we are a diverse group of people with diverse opinions! Take it or leave it Yale

{{{1. What dynamic do you bring to the suite?}}}

1- I’m both the bubbly adventurer and the reliable friend. 2- I’m great to cry with over tear-jerking Korean dramas. 3- I give honest fashion criticism. 4- I can make Cup Noodles into a gourmet meal.

{{{2. Who would you invite, and what would you ask?}}}

Thanhha Lai, author of Inside Out and Back Again. While fleeing Vietnam, she never let fear dim her passion and ardor. “Miss Lai, how satisfying was it when you kicked that bully in the dương vật?”

{{{3. What inspires you?}}}

Bounce the ball. We the best. Begin the rally. Never give up.
“When you feel like you just can’t go on, remember.”
Another one. Forehand. Another one. Backhand. Another one. Win.
-Wise Words w/ DJ Khaled

{{{4. What Yale course?}}}

In “Protagonists of the Present & Pages,” we would analyze the psyches of fictional characters and discuss heroism in our nonfiction world, proving that you don’t need magic or powers to be a hero.

Honestly looking back at my application is a major cringe fest now :open_mouth: I wrote my Common App essay about being “#HomelessInKorea” and I formatted it like a vlog :))

Reading over applications is super painful. Some answers I love, others make me smack my head against a wall in regret. Solution: avoid at all costs.

  1. The reflective thinker
    2)Edmund Hillary-Personal growth during his climb
    3)Being outside in nature
  2. TANKS 101

@MyDogsNameIsFat Omg you seem like an amazing roommate!! And I have MAD respect for anyone who references the honorable DJ Khaled!!
