Yale 2023 Applicants Discussion

Hi all! I have a question about scores… I self-reported my scores on the Common App, which only allows you to report your highest section scores. However, I took the SAT 3 times, and Yale requires that you send all scores. Their website says to use the “Update Application” form on the portal. BUT, the form says not to submit it more than two times.

Do I submit it three times so I can report all my scores? If I do submit it three times, though, I would be repeating some of the subscores that I put into the Common App.

If I don’t submit it three times, then how should I get all my sores there? Please let me know if you have any suggestions/insights!

@applicant2023 is it possible for you to submit an official score report from college board? this seems like the most effective way to do it, but there might be other ways not sure

Does anyone know why decisions are coming out on the 14th this year? I thought they usually posted them on Thursday

“… I self-reported my scores on the Common App, which only allows you to report your highest section scores. However, I took the SAT 3 times, and Yale requires that you send all scores.”

The Yale supplement included a section to report any additional scores that couldn’t be included earlier on the Common Ap.

“Their website says to use the “Update Application” form on the portal. BUT, the form says not to submit it more than two times.”

Probably because continual updates make it very difficult to assess the application.

“Do I submit it three times so I can report all my scores? If I do submit it three times, though, I would be repeating some of the subscores that I put into the Common App.”

Why can’t you submit it once and include all your scores and test dates? There is an option on the “Update Application” link for self-reported test scores. That’s the fastest way to get them the info. You can also have everything sent officially as @dreamthief001 suggested.

Since they want you to report all three sets of scores, I think it’s fine to submit the form three times. I think they just don’t want you updating it often with other types of information.

Im so nervous I submitted a week ago and I spent the whole day thinking about December 14th

Submitted on the 30th…
I’m a little annoyed at myself for getting so attached to Yale honestly. So many people had warned me to not have a ‘dream school’, especially a selective one, because statistically it’s a reach for everyone, and I’m highly likely to get disappointed due to being rejected. Yet here I am, putting all my hope into Yale.

I’m in the same boat… I submitted on Wed and have been anxious about it all week! I haven’t told anyone but my parents I’m applying yet, because I don’t want to have to tell everyone when I get rejected/deferred. :frowning:

@elisabethem , that’s very wise. Well intentioned and sincere people you know, with “loving eyes,” often have no idea how selective Yale and similar schools are. As far as they’re concerned, you’re a mortal lock for acceptance; how would any school not accept someone so smart, so hardworking, with such character, etc.

I sincerely wish you good luck. I’m sure, it it’s not at Yale, you will succeed elsewhere.

Hi all, I’m an SCEA applicant. My school just finished our first quarter, and I ended with the best grades I’ve received since starting high school, in the most rigorous courseload I’ve taken. Because of this, I want to submit this quarter to Yale, but I’m unsure of whether they require first quarter grades. If they do not, how/should I submit?

@raf42001 check with your GC but you can probably go ahead and arrange to have those submitted (officially). Here’s what it says on the website:

"Mid-Year Report

All applicants for first-year admission who have not already graduated from secondary school should submit a mid-year report with official grades from the first marking period of the current academic year as soon as those grades are available. A school counselor or official should submit the grades directly to Yale, online via the Common Application or Coalition Application, or via mail or fax."

@SeeWithTheHeart - no easy answer there. Hopefully your university grades are already included on your transcript and your work with your congressional rep. a part of your application in some way (essay, activities section, wherever it fits best). You need to ask yourself whether these additional letters which are over and above what Yale has requested truly speak to YOUR abilities (rather than just a generic letter), then check with your admissions counselor at Yale to discuss whether they can/should be uploaded as an update to your application. I don’t believe Yale actually asked for a resume(?) - some colleges do, however, so it makes sense that you have one. But does it add new and valuable info. or is it just another way of listing your academic and EC accomplishments (which hopefully are already part of your CA)? If you end up meeting with an interviewer perhaps you can submit the resume to that individual, if they think it would be helpful to have.

@IxnayBob that’s very true. A lot of people here in India have this mentality that if you’re intelligent and have great grades, you’re sure to get in wherever you want. Better not to tell them of any rejections then.

Hello,
I just had a question. Does using the application updates form on the portal to make changes to something on your application harm your chances at all?
Thank you!

@goldenbees i don’t see why it would, though i wouldn’t send the form more than once or twice at most.

No, assuming you are not updating weekly.

Is it true that school counselor has different deadline? Our school counselor hasn’t uploaded his counselor recommendation letter yet!! :frowning:

No, they have the same deadline, although they, unlike you, will be given a bit of a grace period.

Hi. Has any of you all been contacted for an interview?

@hi2023 i was just contacted this morning!

@dreamthief001 that’s wonderful! Should I be worried if I do not get an interview? I live in the middle of nowhere. Yikes
