Yale 2023 Applicants Discussion

So I was deferred, like almost everyone else, but am starting to doubt my application. Is there any way to gauge how well you will do in the regular decision round for other schools of similar caliber?

Now that itā€™s been a few hours, (like 7.5 lol), Iā€™m pleased to say that Iā€™ve taken the deferral really well. It obviously stings a bit, but I was genuinely expecting a rejection, so to think that they didnā€™t reject me makes me hopeful for my chances at other colleges. Lifeā€™s good. Whatever happens, next year this time weā€™ll all have very different things to worry about, and may look back at this thread with a bit of nostalgia, even. I certainly hope so. All the best to the rest of you, wherever your paths take you, and MASSIVE congrats to those accepted. It was harder than ever this year.

What is the acceptance rate in RD of the deferred applicants in Yale?

They donā€™t publish that info, @Boswind . You have to act as though itā€™s the same as the rest of the regular decision pool and develop other alternatives, so if you do get in itā€™s a happy surprise.

I read in another forum that only 7 % of deferred applicants are accepted in regular decision. Not a very good prospect.

^But better than their overall acceptance rate.

7% is good because in RD round the admission rate of all applicants is only 4~5%

If it is any consolation for the deferred applicants, you are in a better position than your brethren who were deferred from Harvard. In past years, Harvard deferred around 74% of SCEA applicants. Therefore you have made it through a finer sieve. If you have updates in test scores, grades, awards, etcā€¦ that make your application stronger, by all means submit them. On the other hand, it is time to move on and learning to love more of your matchy schools. But do not doubt yourselves. To be where you are must mean that you are smart, motivated young adults. Apply these qualities to wherever you end up and you will do just fine.

@BKSquared Agreed! If any big achievements come by (for ex, I know that Regeneronā€”arguably the most prestigious science research competitionā€”has yet to announce results), make sure to append your application! This can be done on the Yale Student Status portal. OR, if you can obtain your regional Yale AOā€™s contact info, emailing him/her may be preferable.

Rejected :frowning: Upset not even deferredā€¦ UGHā€¦

@notstuy that doesnā€™t mean ur not awesome, it just means Yale wasnā€™t right for youā€¦ iā€™m sure you could still get into harvard, stanford, anywhere else, they all just look for different things!

Did anyone of you who was rejected/deferred/accepted had an interview with an alumni?

@Itiznotfare i had an interview and was deferred :frowning:

I had an interview and was deferred.

I did not have an interview and was accepted

@Popcorn454, Yale meets need for international students too. Did you run the net price calculator prior to applying to estimate your family contribution and was that an amount your parents were prepared to spend? If you did then ask the financial aid office to explain why it greatly differs. If not, then Iā€™m sorry you got an admission that does not offer you anything other than an ego boost.

Does anyone have the link for statistics and results

@YaleGradandDad I did run the net price calculator (which technically is not meant for international students), and it came out to a family contribution of 15-20k a year. Isnā€™t it weird that the offer of financial aid goes from an estimation of like 50k to 0?

^ Definitely contact the FA office with your parents to see why they calculate no need. If Yale accepted you EA, they definitely want you to be able to attend.
